RA.306 Matthew Dear

Published / 09 April 2012 Filesize / 62.47 MB Length / 00:52:00 One of electronic music’s best-loved artists brings the heat. There aren’t many examples of artists who are equally as comfortable crafting esoteric minimal techno as they are standing on stage fronting a band. Having been active on the scene now for over a decade, Texas-born artist Matthew Dear has come to enjoy a unique standing within electronic music by pursuing each of his sonic interests with equal vigour. Ghostly International and its club-orientated offshoot Spectral, the imprint Dear co-founded with Sam Valenti IV at the end of the ’90s, has been the platform for most of these explorations. …

Juno Plus Podcast 30: XOSAR

Juno Plus Podcast 30: XOSAR

Length: 1:02:34 The 30th Juno Plus podcast comes from one of 2012’s shining lights, XOSAR. When your first two solo releases come out on Rush Hour and Long Island Electrical Systems, you must be doing something right. Ghosthaus and Tropical Cruize arrived within a month of each other, and more or less cemented XOSAR as a name to watch with a hawkish eye. The title track from the Ghosthaus 12? on Rush Hour was particularly haunting and ethereal, described by Juno Plus scribe Frank Mitchell as ” both horrendously unnerving and strangely uplifting.” Soon after these 12?s arrived we learned XOSAR was working in collaboration with Dutch producer Danny Wolfers, aka Legowelt, on the Xamiga project, and some light …

(TAL072) Maxime Iko

Those who are used to going out in Paris have probably came across our guest of the week, as he seems to be involved in every single party of the capital. Since his debut as a DJ at the Bains Douches back in 2008, Maxime Iko quickly rose through the ranks so that he’s now regularly invited to play in several prestigious Parisian clubs such as the Rex or the Régine. He also founded the French collective « Cancan », whose infamous gay night called Cockorico continues to attract more and more people from different worlds and backgrounds thanks to its cool vibe and quality line-ups (Jennifer Cardini, Chloé, Julietta…). Otherwise Maxime has been producing for two years …

Infiné Podcast 010 – Fraction

Infiné Podcast 010 – Fraction

We are celebrating the 10th instalment of our podcast series with a pure InFiné artist, Fraction. Is there a need to remind you his excellent “Superposition” EP in 2008?  Since then, Eric Raynaud produced the album of Composer, performed a couple of times shoegazing lives with Cubenx, as well as developed various sound installations. While Eric is still working on some new materials, he found the time to carefully craft a delicious mix of I.D.M., post-dubstep and modern techno tracks. Abstract and emotional, we could not have dreamed of any better soundtrack for this winter.

CLR Podcast 156 | Xhin

The Singaporean by birth and residence has been crafting ominous cuts of cutting-edge electronic music since 1997. His intricate blend of atmospheric and intelligent Techno first gained attention in the music business when he independently released his “Xycle” EP in 2003. In the following year his critically acclaimed debut album “Supersonicstate” came out. In 2006 the German independent label Meerestief discovered his talent and a remix he did for Five Green Circle´s track “Ronan’s BBQ” received massive recognition. In 2009, Xhin joined Berlin based new techno label Stroboscopic Artefacts to release his dark, intense and experimental side of things. The busy dj and producer also forms a production duo with …

LWE Podcast 113: Rod Modell

LWE Podcast 113: Rod Modell

Rod Modell may be best known for his faultless collection of DeepChord records; the short-lived label issued some of the most cerebral variations on dub techno that stand up proudly beside any of the first-wave artists from the German strain of the genre. Others may know him from his part in the duo that gave us the haunting resonance of his and Steven Hitchell’s immaculate The Coldest Season album, which was just the beginning of the multi-layered, sonic-textural delights that Echospace have thus far been responsible for. Before these forays in the world of subconscious mind-mood rhythms, Modell issued a series of ambient releases, all of which were held in just as …

DFRNT – Actaeon EP [CUT010]

DFRNT – Actaeon EP [CUT010]

The tenth Cut EP is brought to you by label curator DFRNT, and provides a showcase for some of the minimal drum & bass styling he has been working on over the past year. Clean-cut and minimal intricacies, infinite synth stabs and mellow vocal work with a suitable helping of bass when required. This EP showcases a slightly alternative side to DFRNT’s work, and is bound to please fans of the recent output of Autonomic affiliates such as Synkro, Indigo, ASC or similar. The second EP to surface in 2012, the tenth release from Cut is as much a curve-ball for the label sound as one might expect. Despite the …

Bassmynt “Your Secret”

Bassmynt “Your Secret”

Questionable production moniker aside, Toronto-based producer Jeff-Antoine Cote (a.k.a.Bassmynt) is certainly on to something with his hyper-slick “Your Secret” production from the brand-new Saturn EP. The deep tune mixes forward-thinking garage techniques with glistening atmospherics and sly dubstep-isms to make for something that’s moody and emotive, even when its propulsive rhythms and snappy percussion veer toward hip-hop. Listen to what the rest of Cote’s fresh record sounds like after the jump.

XLR8R Podcast 233: Marc Houle

Last summer, techno veteran Marc Houle—along with DJ comrades Magda and Troy Pierce—left his longtime home at Richie Hawtin’s Minus label and rededicated himself to the dormant Items & Things imprint. A few releases from Items & Things trickled out during the latter half of 2011, but the reinvigorated label is truly beginning to bear fruit in 2012, beginning with a Undercover, the soon-to-be-released new full-length from Marc Houle himself. Undercover won’t officially see the light of day until March 5, but we invited the Canadian-born artist to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series in the meantime. Drawing almost exclusively from his own productions, including several cuts from the new album, Houle has put together a …
