The Berlin-based Montrealer gets funky on this week’s RA podcast.
House and techno may not have been Guillaume Coutu Dumont’s first musical loves, but all it took was one night of electronic music under the stars to make him realise the potential of the form. Before that fateful night with Julien Roy (who he went on to produce with as Egg), Guillaume preferred the use of live instrumentation over sequenced sounds, playing percussion in funk and jazz bands, but that evening was to change his outlook on composition and performance forever.
Ever since, Guillaume has focused his attention on electronic music almost exclusively, putting together electroacoustic house tracks that have been released by celebrated underground labels like Oslo, Circus Company and Musique Risquée. His live sets have also been turning heads, fusing his jaunty uptempo house sound with live percussion and plenty of enthusiasm. When we we spoke to him a couple of years ago, Guillaume said that he was working too hard on doing his own music to DJ, but for this week’s RA podcast, he’s crafted us a selection of funk, hip-hop, boogie, soul and other vintage dance floor jams.
