Half Hawaii – Perlon / Ultrastretch [GTC132]

Source : Get The Curse

Description

This week, let’s take a ride to Panorama Bar with this very special podcast, actually a live set performed by duo Half Hawaii at the long-running ‘Get Perlonized’ night in the notorious Berlin club in February 2011. Formed by minimal techno veteran Sammy Dee of Perlon fame, and by avant-garde producer Bruno Pronsato, this project champions a stripped-down approach to electronic dance music while retaining depth, surgical precision and most importantly, an elegant dose of soul. With a musical palette  where detail, nuance and other subtleties form particularly refined textures, no wonder the duo is one of the most respected live acts around.

Pulling off a live set that doesn’t get bogged down in the same ideas over and over again and doesn’t just work in the here and now of the dancefloor but will also allow people listening at home, on the go or anywhere else to get in the groove else is no mean feat. Yet this is precisely what the duo has accomplished here. It’s been a while since I’ve heard such essential grooves garnished with refined after-hours weirdness. No kiddo, this ain’t no shutter shades affair, but rather a debonair turtleneck-wearing venture of the highest caliber. Those 50 minutes are short but sweet, I’ve got the set on repeat.

If you like what you hear, keep an eye out for releases by Half Hawaii and co. on Sammy Dee’s fairly new label, Ultrastretch.
