known to many the world over as the founder of blogger’s delight and one of the key movers behind field day and adventures in the beetroot field in the past year casper has launched a new nightclub project that is quite frankly stunning in its ambition and commitment to quality. with BLeeD mister clark is fearlessly showcasing some of the more outré, dark and devilishly enjoyable music firing up the electronic scene at the moment.

to prime newcomers for these night casper’s mixtape takes you on a tour of some the sounds that make up the tenets of the BLeeD dancefloor.

an ever so slight break from the norm this week as we welcome romain rouffiac aka remain who brings a live recording of his set from paris venue showcase from earlier this year.

romain has long been a fixture on the paris scene, known for his studio work and as a regular spinner at the now defunct pulp, but it is as remain with jis sleazy low slung disco sound that he has been developing a reputation furthur afield.

as well as releases on labels such as allez-allez fave throne of blood he is responsible alongside compatriot siskid for setting up the rather wonderful meant records which recently gave birth to the 4th remain ep ralph/digression – a great collection of remain original backed with mice remixes by ewan pearson, pan/tone and plien soleil. go dig it up here.

this hour long live set is a good entry point into remain’s world. its a totally unedited/unprocessed/un-computer-synchonized musical treat from the man ivan smagghe hails as “one of the shining new hopes of the french scene“.

Time for another contribution from our friends over at border community. this weeks missive comes from canadian producer jake fairley aka fairmont.

fairmont is described as jake’s soft side in comparison to the more harder edged electronic sounds he has release on labels like sender, dumb-unit and kompact extra – for whom he has contributed to the ever essential speicher series.

the fairmont project took a massive step forward this month as bc unleashed the velora ep onto the world. more than fulfilling the promise of previous records for bc, trauma and areal, velora is a melodic day glo synthetic delight. it is a true artistic statement and hands down one of the release of the year so far. you can sample the title track in this fantastic mix jake has put together for us but, really, don’t wait. buy velora now - HERE.

we’re big fans of the holiday season at camp allez so in the spirit of giving gifts, and to build excitement to frenzied bursting point for the chop shop new years eve party at the moustache bar, we’ll putting up an extra mix each monday for the next 3 weeks. each mix will be one of the acts performing at the party.

first up we have a storming collection from our brothers in arms loose fit. also known as men about town daniel willis and johnny smith, ‘the fit’ (as no one is calling them but should be) have been responsible this year from some gorgeously sun tinged and low slow funk sounds including remixes for grovesnor and some band called walls as well their debut ep which came out on on joins the dots.

Allez-Allez present a diverse array of approved cuts alongside an interview with Luke Abbott (Border Community).

The second installment of our weekly podcasts featuring interviews, mixes and musings… Sam Willis and Steve Nolan host the first of the Allez-Allez monthly shows on Bleep and take you through their selection on electronic, guitar, and disco cuts. Joining them is Border Community’s Luke Abbott who talks synths, Brian Eno, Krautrock, his influences and his recording processes.

komposit is a collaboration between damon fonooni and patrick campbell with a mission statement of fusing live instrumentation and digital editing to make memorable, emotional non-standard music. after a series of remixes this meeting of minds gave birth to ‘shunga ep’ earlier this year on garden music featuring two spacey original cuts and a remix from wagon repair’s hrdvsion. head on over to the bands facebook page to sample the details and pick up the ep from our buddies at bleep here.

the band claim many influences to their sound including folk, electronica, experimental/IDM, ambient, dubstep, shoegaze, soul, rock, indie and industrial most of which gets run out in this weeks selection.

mr smoughton is back with a new album on lo recordings that continues his love affair with pop music from the past by making pop music for the future. you can pick up ‘soft return’ now from all friendly record clerks.

as we said grovesnor’s previous mix for us was a classic and this new entry raises the bar even furthur. wide ranging, fun and beautiful it is heralding in summer round our way. we’re taking a few weeks off while we spruce up the site and this mix is the perfect way to leave you hanging.

this week we’re chuffed to have a mix from one of our very good friends from the dj world – kompakts’ shumi.

those who saw his slot at cargo alongside matias aguayo back in december will know what a talent shumi is. a longtime and key figure on the cologne dance scene his top class dj skills have graced high profile venue all around europe. last year he made the leap to producer with the release of his first single ‘jump for joy’. naturally this release came out on cologne’s kompakt records – the natural home for shumi – and is well worth picking up.

this mix gives the newcomer a good idea of the smooth and deep selection to expect during a shumi set. seek one out (check here for upcoming gigs) – trust us, you won’t be dissappointed.

his most recent work was the for mobilee back to back mix series. and.id contribution was a 2-cd set featuring the expected sterling mix as well as a brilliant second disc featuring jazzsome classic mobilee releases which have been recorded by a jazz band in a studio and mixed by and.id. well worth picking up here.

after a baby-making break kate is back and has found the perfect new home in the safe arms of good ol’ border community. she is currently readying her new collection of dark electronic post pop which will soon be available under the name of ‘dust collision’. she will be unveiling this work as part of her new live set at the mapping festival at geneva’s la parfumerie in may. mapping is a festival formed in 2005 to promote the art of vj-ing and its vital connection to electronic music. guest appearing alongside miss wax at this years event include skream, d-fuse, and dat politics. you find out more about the the festival here.

this week we’re treated to a selection by the self-proclaimed defender of ‘spooky house and cursed techno’, clement meyer.

clement has been making a strong name for himself for some years now as part of the get the curse family. gtc started life as an excellent blog that is home to podcasts and playlists from the great and good of this dance thing of ours. contributors include solomon, lo soul, ivan smagghe and our good selves. online life leaked into the real with the launch of get the curse parties in paris that saw clement and his pals joined by the likes of andrew weatherall, superpitcher and francios k.

now they’ve taken things to their inevitable conclusion with the launch of get the curse music a vinyl and digital record label and handily their first release is by none other than mr clement meyer. his ‘midnight madness’ is available now and is a feast of dancefloor darkness dubbed by weatherall as ‘the best techno tracks i’ve heard this year.’ get ithere.

clement is a busy man over the next coming months playing at a feast of parties. london readers can catch him down the t-bar on the 5th march. this mix gives you an idea of what you can expect.

wesley is offering the collage (named standing stones 1 – get a better look of it here) to any serious offers. it comes mounted in a 325mm square frame (you can get an idea of its size here).

This week we have a brilliant wide ranging mix from the curator of hotflush recordings - scuba. hotflush was one of the original dubstep labels and was responsible for some of the key releases during the genre’s early days.

Scuba (real name paul rose) took the well trod path from london to berlin a few years back, a move which influenced the sound of his acclaimed debut mutual antipathy (keep an eye out for the new scuba album ‘triangulation’ arriving at the end of march) and his house/techno alter ego SCB.

The city also hosts his phenominally succesful SUB:STANCE night at the home of techno berghain where alongside paul fowler he has been preaching from the pulbit of bass since 2008. the night is set to release its first mix cd ‘sub:stance 01′ on ostgut ton next week – get the full info here. until monday though this mix will take to the furthurest reaches of what makes scuba tick.

No strangers to making mixes, Allez Allez – DJs Sam Willis and Steve Nolan – have made a name for themselves blending Krautrock and ambi-disco with techno and electro, creating a deliciously warm and intoxicating addition to the electronica scene. Their excellent Clash mix features tracks from the legendary Brian Eno and TBD (a little-known project including a former member of !!!, playing some fantastically sideways tech-house), and kicks off with the brilliance of Animal Collective, whose ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ record has just been voted ‘Best Album of 2009’ in this month’s Clash.

We caught up with Allez Allez for a chat about their mix and some general festive banter:

Clash: Can you tell me a little about the mix and your favourite tracks from it?

Steve: Well we wanted to put together a selection that gave a good representation of what to expect at one of our nights. We start playing early in the evening at our residency at Cargo which is a great opportunity to play the non-dance songs we love, so the first 20 minutes mix is very laid-back. Then things get a little more oomph-y.
Also this has been amazing year for us away from DJ-ing – we’ve released our debut 12” on Kickboxer , put out remixes for Fever Ray, It’s a Fine Line, and Simian Mobile Disco, to name a few, and we started our own label – Amazing Sounds. We wanted to represent that side of ourselves as well.
In terms of favourite tracks – I love ‘The Big Ship’ by Eno and the Rodelius & Nikos Arvantis tune is a corker which hits big on the dancefloor whenever I play it. I love pretty much everything The Micronauts have done and The The track that finishes the mix off is one of my all-time faves.

Clash: How do you decide on the tone of an individual mix and what goes into it?

Steve: Mood is a very important factor, especially as we don’t tend to limit ourselves to one style of music in the mixes. Usually I’ll put together a selection of tracks that sum up the style of mix I want to make and then put them together and see which ones fit and which don’t.

Clash: Some favourite tracks to play live?

Steve: So many but some that never really disappear from our sets include Ada – ‘I Love Asphalt’, the Creedence version of ‘Heard it Through The Grapevine’, James Holden’s remix of ‘Safari’ by Andre Kraml, The MFA – ‘The Difference it Makes’ and ‘Time of the Season’ by The Zombies.

Clash: Really enjoyed your Worst Case Scenario remix – what makes a good remix in your opinion?

Sam: Thanks! A good remix takes elements of the original and takes it somewhere different – I just try and get into a creative zone and see where the mood takes me… It’s fun to mangle the original elements through some guitar pedals and plugins to create a weird audio mulch. I much prefer to work with tracks that have vocals and instrumentation, as this really broadens your options as to where to take it, rather than just a minimal percussion pack and some VST synth sounds…
James Holden and DJ Koze are absolute masters at completely reinventing the original song, but in a way that really compliments the original. Check out Holden’s remixes of Radiohead’s ‘Reckoner’ and Mercury Rev’s ‘Senses on Fire’ and DJ Koze’s remixes of Matthew Dear’s ‘Elementary Lover’ and Matias Aguayo’s ‘Minimal’

Clash: Any new material coming up?

Sam: We just had our debut single released by Kickboxer recordings out of Cologne, and the new year will bring a four-track EP on NYC’s awesome RVNG Intl. label, plus a remix of Dan Deacon on Amazing Sounds, alongside mixes from Hudson Mohawke and Luke Abbott.

Clash: Yours will be our Christmas mix, as it were, staying up over the festive period – so excuse the clichés, but here are a few generic Christmas questions. Firstly – your opinions on the festive season:

Steve: I love everything about Christmas – the carols, the shopping, the tree, seeing family, the ‘Holidays are Coming’ ad – I’m the anti-Grinch. The best thing, though, is the music – it’s very special that there’s this section of music that never gets overplayed due to you only being able to listen to it for one month of the year (unless you’re crazy). Every December I dig out the classics like ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’, the Ze Christmas Album, and obviously the Phil Spector album, and it’s like visiting an old friend.

Clash: Best and worst Christmas presents you’ve received:

Sam: Worst Christmas presents were probably the endless Parker fountain pens I’d get from my aunts and uncles in my early teens – ideal if you’re a charted accountant, but not much fun for a kid! The best present was probably the Kaos Pad that my wife bought me – still getting great usage out of it now!

Clash: If Brian Eno came over to your house for Christmas dinner – what would you buy him for a present?

Sam: Well, I’d give him a copy of our debut release, which is a 12” of remixes by Shackleton & Appleblim of some of his music he made with Harmonia, and also, a special audio processor called ‘The Gristlizer’ based on an original design of Chris Carter from Throbbing Gristle – perfect for creating mental noises with.

Clash: Plans for New Year’s Eve?

Steve: Sam will be playing down in Dalston at the Question Mark bar for our good friends Chopshop. Whilst for a change I’ll be staying in with a good bottle of wine and a heavily pregnant girlfriend. Does Clive James still do the ‘Review of the Year’ Show?

Clash: What will you be getting up to in 2010?

Sam: As we mentioned, further releases on our label Amazing Sounds, an EP on RVNG Intl. and also the launch of my new project with Alessio of Banjo Or Freakout, entitled WALLS – we’re currently working on an album for Kompakt Records which is very exciting and a huge honour!

this week we’ve delighted to have a mix from one of our favourite artists of the last few years – axel willner aka the field. axel has had a fantastic year taking in the release of his sophmore album ‘yesterday & today’ followed by an seemingly endless tour round the world with his impressive live band – which you’ll remember shook the rafters off cargo at our night there back in april.

to close out the year kompakt have released the ‘y & t’ remix ep featuring interpretations of some of the album’s tracks by rainbow arabia, gold panda and walls – that up and coming duo walls featuring banjo or freakout’s alessio natalizio and our own sam willis which you can listen to on their myspace. you can pick up the ep right now here. it’ll make a smashing stocking filler and this mix is the perfect soundtrack for a spot of tree decoration and mulled wine.

widely feted for their tracks and award winning soundtrack to mahlia belo’s film ‘silent music‘, they have recently signed with civil music – home to such artists as kotchy, drums of death and rusko. their ep1 is available right now and comes with 4 original tracks and remixes by eero johannes, blue daisy, batfinks and recue, a couple of which can be sampled on this mix.

heiko put this mix together especially for this party. its an all vinyl set and he’s taken time out to fill us in on it some more.

actually i was trying to bring some favorite tunes of mine together from the present and the past ranging from disco to house. so the first track (after the organ intro) by jackson jones
from 1980 and slides into a track by rainer trüby from 2009.
besides these 2 tracks and d-train you’ll find tunes by pal joey (who really is one of my heroes), some timeless nu groove records, sounds by rheji burrell as utopia project, some classic westend sounds like shirley lites. also some sharon redd, visual or colonel abrams besides some present funky tunes by 6th borough project, motor city drum ensemble and norma jean bell.
