Surprising, experimental and always breaking boundaries: there is no doubt that Julie’s music has brought new life to the electronic music scene. Since the age of 10 when she first started playing the violin, Julie has been continually experimenting with this classical instrument. In the last years of her musical development she has fused it with electronic music and created a range of original and surprising sounds in her DJ sets and productions.

With a father who has worked with some of the world’s most iconic jazz artists, e.g. Frank Sinatra, Julie was destined to have a career in music. Being raised in Las Vegas, she was influenced by the electronic sounds of artists like Dépêche Mode, George Clinton, Herbie Hancock and Kraftwerk but it was the electric violin of Jean Luc Ponty that defined julie’s musical vision.

The next stop in her electronic musical journey was Riccione (IT) with the infamous Magic Monday parties at the club Echoes. Names like Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler or Jeff Mills were heard weekly. During these musically golden years Italy was a mecca for great underground house music and Julie became absorbed in the scene, listening and being inspired by some of the best in the business.

Shortly after this period Julie moved on to begin her musical career as resident DJ at the historical club, Peter Pan in Riccione, Italy.

Julie has since played in venues including Cocoon (Frankfurt), Amnesia and Space (Ibiza), Katerholzig and Weekend(Berlin) and Egg in London. She is also the mastermind behind ‘Sol Asylum’, a Berlin-based party known for its talented artists such as Ryan Crosson, Miss Jools, Dana Ruh and Adam Shelton.

Julie’s hard work and determination has not gone unnoticed. In fact, her productions Last Tango and Arazmataz gained support from DJs such as Villalobos, Loco Dice, Luciano and Tobi Neumann, and the appreciation of her work from colleagues and connoisseur’s continues to grow. One of her latest releases ‘Filled with Something’ on Abstract Theory was remixed by Subb_An and without a doubt, showcased her talents once again for being an inspiring performer and producer who remains true to her soul.

Lee grew up in Essex, England, but can almost call himself a Berliner now, having moved there from London 8 years ago. During the late 90′s, producing and performing as Hefner, he became involved with the post-drum and bass, downbeat, lounge sound of the time, remixing the likes of 4Hero, Cinematic Orchestra and Lamb, and releasing the album Residue in 2000. As a resident at the new Plastic People club, he first tried to find a way to express his musical taste in a club environment. It was only when he moved to Berlin in 2002 to be with his girlfriend, inspired by the new soundtrack he discovered during long Kreuzberg nights, that he finally traded his jazz chords for dancing shoes, and with MyMy began to explore the world of house and techno. Together with Panorama Bar resident Nick Höppner, they toured in a total of 27 countries and appeared on labels such as Ostgut Ton, Circus Company and Playhouse, where they released the album Songs for the Gentle in 2006. In 2010, after 5 years together, MyMy decided to go their own ways and to stop their monthly parties at Watergate where Lee had developed his skills as a DJ. He would now focus on establishing himself as a solo DJ and Producer, and one of Watergate’s main residents.
Having played keyboards, guitar and bass since he was young, Lee is always searching for musicality in his sound. His approach in the studio comes from his love of song writing and composition, influenced by classical music, jazz and film soundtracks. For some time his solo releases and remixes have been popping up on labels such as Aus Music, Liebe*Detail and Cityfox, and in 2008 he released his debut LP “Electronic Frank” on Aus Music. He has just released his first mix CD, Watergate 07

Lee Jones has released two critically acclaimed singles for Aus Music in 2008. The first, ‘Aria’ was released in February and remixed by Tiger Stripes. Hailed as The first great 12\” of 2008 by Philip Sherburne (The Wire/Earplug) and ‘truly beautiful’ by Resident Advisor (5/5 Jacob Wright).

Lee followed this up with his ‘As You Like It’ EP, which was released on the 5th May complete with a remix by Recloose. It received 4.5/5 in a review on Resident Advisor with the following comment by the reviewer – ‘As You Like It’ will only consolidate the proposition that Jones is producing some of the grooviest and most subtle tech house out there at the moment a doubly appropriate alignment, as Aus is effectively becoming the go-to label for similar works.’
Essex bred Lee Jones lived in London until 2002, where he was producing and remixing as the downtempo/ nu-jazz artist Hefner. After following his heart to Berlin, he was inspired by the music and clubs to move into a new production style and for the past 4 years he’s been the creative production force behind My My whose debut album ‘Songs For The Gentle’ made waves across the globe.

Lee has also recently released a 12” on Upon You and the single ‘Southbound’ as My My on Ostgut Ton. Lee’s debut artist album under his own name will be released on Aus Music in September with 2 EP’s from the album out in September and October. The first of these will be remixed by Stimming (Dynamic Records).

As any fan of underground techno-house knows, keeping up with the vast amount of new artists, labels, and releases appearing each and every week can be a daunting task. So when a genuinely fresh and exciting talent comes along, it?s worth paying attention. Such is the case with Istanbul native Ahmet Sisman, who in the space of just two years has become one of the most hotly tipped DJ-Producer-Live Acts around. With a string of killer releases on Cocoon, Lessizmore and Dumb-Unit – not to mention his own Slash Label – Ahmet?s dynamic style incorporates all that is good about quality club music right now, fusing next-level studio skill with power, movement, and some serious club-slaying grooves. Percussive, futuristic, and dripping with bass, the Sisman sound is the antidote to the looped-up laziness that’s been so prevalent in house and techno of late.

As a teenager growing up in Istanbul, Ahmet?s early musical influences were deeply eclectic, incorporating everything from Britpop to traditional Turkish folk music, from Mozart to Grandmaster Flash. If you listen carefully, you can hear some of this rich patchwork of influences in his music now, particularly in his almost classical approach to arrangements and textures. “The point is that in Istanbul, you hear music everywhere,” he explains, “At home, on the streets, everywhere. So not getting in touch with music is nearly impossible.” It was a chance encounter with Underworld?s „Born Slippy?, however, that set Ahmet?s focus towards the limitless possibilities offered by electronic dance music. Although the Turkish techno scene was almost non-existent at the time, a trip to Germany in 2005 opened Ahmet’s eyes to the real deal. “It was love at first sight!” he exclaims. “Straight away, becoming a DJ and and playing in those clubs became my biggest ambition.”

The same year, he started his own parties at Unperfkethaus in Essen, inviting DJs like Onur Özer, Dapayk, Phono and Einmusik to spin. Soon enough, Ahmet began to produce his own sounds, and 2008 sent his first demo to well-respected imprint Lessizmore – who signed him very same day. Working tribal flourishes amidst ominous, pulsing atmospherics, the ‘Hiyan’ EP was the first flowering of the sound Ahmet continues to develop and refine today. His next EP (this time for Stock5) came to the attention of techno overlord Sven Vath, who licensed ‘Buiya’ from the EP for his zeitgeist-defining „Sound of The Ninth Season? mix CD, and the track went on to become one of 2008′s defining underground hits. Meanwhile, Ahmet was building up steam as a DJ, and has played all over the world at clubs like Cocoon, Watergate, Harry Klein (DE), Arma17 (RU), Rex (FR), Fuse (BE) and many more.

Whether rocking the prime time floors or going deeper and more hypnotic for the late hours, for Ahmet, it’s all about finding that perfect groove. “A perfect groove is half the job on the dancefloor,” he explains. “Doesn’t matter if it’s house, or techno, or inbetween. I think it’s also important to use interesting melodies, vocals, orchestral strings – the things that add a certain character to a track.” And while he’s fond of tracky, hypnotic club tracks, don’t expect the kind of dull, looped up tribal tech-house that’s boring dancefloors to death the world over. “From my point of view the artist should put soul into his music and tell a story, so I can’t stand this stupid loopbased house music that’s so hip now. I don’t feel that kind of music. When I like a track, I need to be able to play and listen to it many times before I get bored.”

The same philosophy is behind Slash Label, the imprint Ahmet set up in 2009 with his good friend Tim aka Pherox as a platform for their own music. In the space of five releases, the label’s small roster (formed of Ahmet, Pherox, and their friend Nico) has already firmly established itself in the scene – indeed, the label’s very first release went to straight to the Number One spot on the decks.de charts. Musically, the Slash Label agenda is simple but effective – quality, groove-based club music that straddles house and techno with aplomb. As you’d expect, the upcoming months hold plenty in store for Ahmet Sisman. Confirmed for a full EP release on Cocoon later in the spring, he’s also planning more productions and remixes for Slash, and his other ‘homelabels’, Dumb-Unit, Stock5 and Lessizmore. On top of that, he’s been developing his live act, which we can expect to see tearing down plenty more venues worldwide in 2010. One thing is certain: so far, we’ve only seen a glimpse of Ahmet’s talent, and you can be sure that there’s a whole lot more to come….

Originally from the USA and now relocated to Valencia Spain, Eric Estornel is making incredible leaps and strides releasing some of the most devastating yet unique music in the industry. His djing obsession began back in 1993 at the age of 15, and soon after became deeply infatuated with bringing his musical ideas to life with his production. Since then, hiis sudonyms Maetrik, Mariel Ito, and Maceo Plex are under great demand for the rich dynamic production and unique blend of techno, house, funk, and electro that only Eric can devise.

Perhaps it’s because of Eric’s clear Cuban roots or his years in the game, but without a doubt 2009 was an incredible year and only more amazing things are expected of his truly unarguable talent. 10 years since his first release on the respected Immigrant Records back in 2000 and Eric is still holding strong to his quest for the future of dance. Since then he’s gone onto write 3 full length albums, a slew of 40 more Eps, and countless remixes. Even through the years of Prolific production, Eric has developed one of the most intricate and floor driving live acts in electronic music. Fusing his skillfull DJing and Live PA performance in a way that walks a fine line between intelligent and conceptual music, and floor filling futuristic body rocking.

Whether working on his “other worldly” compositions as Maetrik, his alien sounding electro as Mariel Ito, or his innovative dark house music as Maceo Plex, Eric is always putting his blood sweat and tears into everything he does. Putting aside trends and crushing genre boundaries, no one can argue that Eric has always stayed true to what comes from his heart or his sometimes choatic mind.

Watch out for more killer music on his USA homebase Claude Vonstroke’s Mothership imprint. Or extraordinary Europe brands Dumb Unit, Treibstoff, and Audiomatique. For now Eric’s Maceo Plex house album is still in the works, but be looking for it on one of the most innovative and brightest labels out there. Crosstown Rebels ….it’ will surprise those out there that didn’t know such soul could come out of the one most call MAETRIK.

Marko fürstenberg was born in 1976 in thuringia, germany. influenced by the 80s music such as depeche mode, a-ha and new order he was attracted to electronic music from its beginning. very early marko made his first steps in recording his own tapes as “dolby”. in the beginning of 1995 he started dj-ing at several parties in thuringia and already then showing a techno-orientation originated from labels like x-trax, force inc., klang and later basic channel. a few years later he started creating his first own electronic sounds with a pc and thus he invested constantly in technical equipment. in 2000 his first project “vertikal 23” was established, in cooperation with local musicians. the outcome was a mixture between downbeat & trip hop but later on marko developed his own deep sound. providing his music on the internet, marko got in touch with the “thinner” netlabel, which published his first release under “dolby” alias in 2002. further releases followed also on other netlabels such as realaudio, stadtgruen and instabil, as well as remixes for digitalverein, rktic, lod and sarah goldfarb. the success story began: between 2003 and 2005 marko performed at some international festivals and clubs, e.g. in canada, greece, sweden, poland, suisse, austria, etc. after publishing quite a number of netreleases, his first vinyl track on “thinner allstars pt.1” (2003) was published under the pseudonym “surphase”. very soon after that marko decided to use his real name marko fürstenberg for his future work. after moving to leipzig in 2006, marko approached a peak level in productivity, releasing a number of songs in rapid succession with labels like a.r.t.less, tfe and rotary-cocktail. marko’s success within the constantly changing techno scene didn’t come as a surprise: together with diverse dj partners as well as solo artist marko fürstenberg is now performing regularly in clubs & parties all over europe. his live sets combine classic dub-techno elements with current techno trends, which is much valued by his audience. with this kind of electronic music marko is considerably involved in the development of dub- and deep-techno.

Patrice Bäumel is a German electronic musician who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 14 years. Before fully committing his life to making music, he had a carreer in teaching, computer programming and design…

Some people are collectors. They collect foto’s, books, records. They cherish the memories that are attached to these things, mentally re-living bygone days. The older and rarer an object is, the more valuable and fascinating it seems to them.
Patrice is not one of those people. No foto collection. Memory is baggage. No vinyl fetish. Tradition is limitation. Future, however, is a blank sheet of paper, waiting to be scribbled upon in the maddest colours imaginable. The excitement of the unknown is what motivates him to experiment and break free from the herd. Holy cows need to be slaughtered every now and then. Look closely and you will see blood on his hands.
Behind the decks or in the studio, Patrice tries to combine the uncombinable, mix contrasting elements, play with surprising dynamics. Man vs machine, warm vs cold. It is the reoccurring theme in his tracks, podcasts and dj sets.
Patrice has gained a rock solid reputation worldwide through his productions for labels like Get Physical (“Roar”), Trapez or Studio !K7. Remix work includes mixes for Booka Shade or Bomb The Bass. Together with Nuno Dos Santos he forms “360”, a cutting edge dj and production duo. Their monthly residency at Trouw is a wild display of new school electronic dance music. As a co-owner of the new Trouw label and booking agency, Patrice is involved in many aspects of today’s music business.

Other happening things: One of the album tracks is licensed to !K7 and will appear on the next DJ Kicks compilation done by Apparat. A spontaneous collaboration with Lee Jones lead to an interesting track that can be found on Lee’s upcoming Watergate mix cd. On top of that, there is a pretty outlandish remix for H.O.S.H.’s new album coming out on Diynamic. Last but not least Patrice will finally hit the road with his brand new live act, starting around the time of the album release.

KILL THE CLUB with XPANSUL @ EREMO 17/9.

Real name /	Santiago Ferrer Rapp
Moniker(s) /	Xpansul, Creeping Wave, Ergot, Backspin Boys

Santiago Ferrer, also known as Xpansul, started djing in 1993. Since then, he has played in most of the biggest clubs and festivals all over Spain, Europe and the Americas.

Xpansul’s sound as a dj is techno, his sets are a journey through electronic dance music, in which the “axis” Detroit-Chicago-Berlin-Cologne is the driver and all his other musical influences are the passengers.

Since 1998, Santi starts writing and producing music as well, getting a really good response from the crowd and critics to his first releases on labels such as Audiodrome, Options, Isoghi, Syl.Label or Soundplant, sometimes working solo and sometimes with his partner Daweed.

In 2003 Xpansul starts his own labels Discos De Lata and MSX manged along Daweed and Miguel Mendoza respectively, which has taken him to a solid position as a producer and label manager on an international level, thanks to the success achieved by his releases on this labels and other releases on Software Records, Sindicato Records and Random Dynamics.

And it was back then when Xpansul met well respected producer Alexi Delano and they started a series of collaborations, both original tracks and remixes, that have been put out on labels such as Plus 8, Truesoul, Frankie Recs Trapez and Leftroom, taking Xpansul one step ahead in his already promising career.

From then on Xpansul’s calendar becomes, more than busy, hectic, showing his dj skills all over the world and receiving a great, warm welcome everywhere he’s gone. All this, added to his releases on Ovum, Soma Quality Recordings, Ad Ltd., Minuendo, or his own Discos De Lata confirmed Xpansul as a true solid value in the electronic dance music scene worldwide.

2009 is the year where new things have to happen, so Xpansul opens new label, True Type Tracks, along Daweed, and starts performing live sets in order to open himself to a new path of musical expression, a way to keep growing as a musician, to establish himself as an artist that is here to stay.

KILL THE CLUB

A new Italy-based crew was born, known as “Kill the Club”. Tired of the everyday pop-music, a group of friends, composed by a clubber, a designer and a dj, has decided to create a new way to feel music with an idea, as simple as feasible, to spread and bring to common people the “quality techno music” . “Kill the Club” began their events-organization-experience supporting their two first parties with internationals djs as Dorian Paic and Xpansul….waiting for the next one with Niederflur…

“I get restless when I can’t work on my own melodies. It’s such a good outlet for my emotions”. There you have it in a nutshell. Dutch Estroe lives for her music. It’s electronic, it’s beat driven and it’s full of emotions.

Together with techno hotties like Anja Schneider, Mistress Barbara and Monika Kruse, Dutch.Estroe belongs to an elite club of female DJ’s that made it to the top. Born in Zutphen as Esther Roozendaal in 1972, raised near Amsterdam and currently living in Rotterdam, she has been dj-ing for more than ten years.

Whether it’s behind the turntables in the famous Fuse in Brussels, the Watergate in Berlin or an underground club in Tokyo, Estroe knows how to tune in and drop the right beats. She likes to play versatile, techno infused sets with room for deep undercurrents as well as pure dancefloor work. Her style is warm, subtle but at the same time very energetic. As you’ll find out when you drop by at Klinch in the Amsterdam based club Melkweg, where Estroe has as residency.

Things really took off when Estroe started producing her own tracks back in 2003. In hindsight it was an unconscious response to the skull breaking beats of those days.
She learned everything there was to know about hard- and software. Her spacious Rotterdam apartment fills with laughter when Estroe thinks back of those days. “For months I tried every piece of music software I could get my hands on. Till I finally got it right. It was important for me that I could produce tracks myself, without the help of an established producer.”

In her first productions Estroe went back to the early days of Detroit techno. Back when people like Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin and the British group The Black Dog caressed their keyboards instead of beating them up.
With her sophisticated, warm and elegant style she soon appeared on the radar of dj’s like Laurent Garnier, Ripperton and John Digweed. The latter was blown away by Estroe’s minimalist masterpiece Driven and promply asked her for a remix on his Bedrock label. Techno don Dave Clarke has also been a long time fan of Estroe, booking her for his White Noise parties on more than one occassion.
It’s not about maximum compression, distorted hi-hats or full on bassdrums on Estroe’s delicate productions. No, it’s all about atmosphere. “I want to hit people’s emotional spot, being it comfort, peace or excitement”, she says about her music’s primary aim. But make no mistake, singles like Updraft (Mezzotinto), Beat Box Contest ( Dualblock) And Can’t Sleep (Connaisseur) are clearly aimed at adventurous dancefloors worldwide.

Things are also looking bright for EevoNext, the web based techno label she manages along with Stefan ‘Terrace’ Robbers and Klaas-Jan ‘The Moderator’ Jongsma. Recently the Dutch techno trio expanded it’s wings to Dance Tunes.com and Protonradio.com, for which they produce a monthly radioshow.
EevoNext releases classics from the Dutch techno vaults but also breaks new talent. That’s where Estroe comes in. “I like to scout and coach new talent”, she admits. “I’ve been in this business long enough to know the pitfalls.”

With her debut album on Connaisseur Recordings released in November 2009 (with Miss Kittin among the confirmed guest appearances) and an in-box full of remix requests, chances are high you’ll be dancing to an Estroe tune this weekend. Things are looking bright for Estroe, hence she has given up her job last year to concentrate fully on her tunes and deejaying. “This is what I always wanted.” And trust us, this is what you want too.

Holger Zilske aka SMASH TV is by now a familiar figure in the electronic music landscape. Since his early beginnings as a producer, performer and sound designer, Holger Zilske’s achievements have steadily garnered him worldwide recognition. As one of the first artists on BPitch Control, one of techno’s most distinguished labels, he has been until now best known under his SMASH TV alias, founded together with former partner Michael Schmidt. 1999 saw the beginning of a prolific, long-term collaboration with BPitch label boss Ellen Allien. SMASH TV’s first own release “Electronic Boy” soon followed on the label, in 2001.

Holger Zilske subsequently went on to establish himself as a veteran in the BPitch stable. He has contributed nearly 30 releases on this label alone, including two albums as SMASH TV: “Electrified” and “Bits for Breakfast”. 2006 saw the release of two highly successful SMASH TV singles: “Air/Earth” and “Yellow Asteroids”. His collaboration as co-composer and producer with Ellen Allien also attests to his
mastery and creativity in the studio, resulting in the acclaimed albums “Stadtkind”, “Berlinette” and “Thrills” as well as various remixes for Audion, Golden Boy with Miss Kittin, Malaria and Peter Licht.
In addition to numerous releases on BPitch Control, SMASH TV has also worked together with many other well-known artists as remixer, producer and composer. A special edit of the song “What About Me” appeared on Miss Kittin’s album “i-com”.

SMASH TV has provided remixes for Adam Freeland, Dirtcrew, Mediengruppe Telecommander, Raz Ohara and Sylvie Marks among others. Holger Zilske is in the spotlight now as DJ and producer, having shed his alias for his most recent project under his birth name. A first release as Holger Zilske, “Rainshower”, was produced together with Dave DK and appeared in 2006 on Playhouse, and was followed by “Spooky Kissing” at the end of 2007. During the same year, his track “Enduro Disco” was released on Mobilee sublabel Leena and has been getting rotation from Steve Bug, Richie Hawtin and Claude Von Stroke.

2008 is already set to be a very productive year with two releases scheduled for March on two of the most influential labels on the techno scene. Hot on the heels of his last Playhouse release comes a new Holger Zilske single “From Birds and Bees” (play144), and another BPitch release as SMASH TV, “Locomotive Breath” (bpitch 170). Every bit as dynamic outside the studio, Holger Zilske is a seasoned touring
performer who has appeared in many countries including the US, Canada, Brazil, Russia, the UK and beyond. Since 2002, his highly charged live sets as SMASH TV have thrilled audiences around the world with their ecstatic, technoid style, and are always in high demand. Over the past three years, he has been no less captivating as an accomplished DJ, representing a more personal, deep and minimal side of himself that never fails to inspire the dancefloor. Currently he continues to perform and can be booked as both a live act (SMASH TV) and DJ under his own name.

In 1990 Arnaud Le Texier started his career as a DJ in the region of Rennes in Western France. Inspired by the work of artists such as Herbie Hancock, The Orb, Kraftwerk and Pink Flyod, Arnaud began mixing at rave parties alongside various established DJ’s and later launched the weekly club party “Promised Land” at L’Espace. It was during this period that he met Nova Nova (from the F Communication label) and he collaborated on the maxi single EX EP.

After several years of managing the record shop “Club News” in Rennes, Arnaud moved to Paris where he managed another well known record shop. It was here that his career as a DJ really began to develop. Performing at the top clubs in Paris and worldwide, Arnaud soon had a residency at Queen that lasted five years, mixing with some of the worlds best DJ’s and the best clubs in Paris. During this period Arnaud also did many mixes for Radio FG, one of France’s leading electronic music stations, including a special broadcast.

As well as touring all over France for many sponsored parties, Arnaud Le Texier also performed internationally in countries such as Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, USA etc. At the end of the year 2000 he played in Miami alongside British DJ James Warren and the two artists decided to launch the UK based labels; Atcha Recordings, which experimented with Deep House and Trip- Hop, and kailash Records which explored Tech-House, Break beat, Techno and Electro sounds.

At the end of 2004 Arnaud and James launched Safari Electronique, which concentrates on more experimental and minimal sounds. At the beginning of 2006 Arnaud decided to live in London where he plays in various clubs & parties (Fabric, T Bar, Multi Vitamins, Zig Zag, etc …)

Arnaud is a perfect blend of natural talent and raw flare with very distinctive music.
Through his focus on music quality and originality, as well as his performances on an international level, Arnaud Le Texier is becoming one of the leaders in French electronic sound.

A Detroit-Chicago collaboration between prolific and low-key ambient dub-techno producer Rod Modell (Deepchord) If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, the fellows in Berlin’s Rhythm & Sound camp will have no problem endorsing Detroit-based Deepchord as their dub-techno heir apparent. Already an established ambient producer, Rod Modell partnered with Mike Schommer, quietly releasing their first 12″ together in the late ’90s. Like Rhythm & Sound, Deepchord based their compositions around minimal arrangements: repetitive rhythms inspired by dub, faint traces of white noise, and warm synth stabs. The group retained a loyal cult following, releasing several more singles in the early 2000s as well as a limited-run CD version of their first six releases (originally pressed up in extremely limited quantities). The duo’s production went from prolific to a screeching halt around 2002, making a remarkable and rare live performance at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and releasing singles in a scarce fashion (the group’s 2006 single was only pressed to 100 copies). A retrospective of the group’s work, Vibrasound: 1999-2004, was issued under Modell’s name and released on the Silentes label in 2005. Later that year, Modell teamed with Kevin Hanton to release Illuminati Audio Science and used a generous portion of the group’s output, looped and sliced into small segments (much like Richie Hawtin’s DE9 experiments), for a continuous 70-minute mix CD – and Steven Hitchell (Soultek), Echospace released a series of 12″ singles on England’s Modern Love label, all of which were compiled on a CD named after the series, The Coldest Season. The same year, the duo also issued a pair of singles on Lee Purkis’ Fortune8 label, as well as an additional release on echospace[detroit]. As with much of Modell’s output, Echospace’s material is deeply rooted in the Basic Channel/Chain Reaction school of dub-techno, emphasizing deep throbs and alternately soothing and unsettling ambience (manipulated field recordings, for the most part)

Influenced first by Depeche Mode, Joy Division, New Order, Jean Michelle Jarre and Giorgio Moroder (hid idol) he was allowed to discover and keep his eclecticism by open-ing up to anything experimental. Nowdays is more inspired by the american electronic techno-house, anything experimental and a warm organic melodic sound whic he aims to create, ingredients that make the “festival” atmosphere.

He describes his music a “constantly changing soul thing”. He doesn’t like to define and confine genres but his style slides from techno to deep to groovy and sexy influenced by his travels and the time spent in Melbourne where he lived over a year and has been fully appreciateted building a reputation in its underground scene.

His passion for electronic music was switched on again and naturally his desire to play his own sounds pushed him to production.

Completely self-taught,he fully appreciates the power of technology. Infact playing Live allows Emiliano to concentrate better on the melody flow and create an experience improvising with his elements and Fx.

At the moment is and under production with the new digital label Cosmea Music, and few of his production will be out soon here but he’s also sending his material all over to collaborate with different labels as his motto is: Define is to limit

Biography

Patrice Scott is one of Detroit’s up and coming producers of deep house and techno music. Substance, quality, and diversity are the driving forces behind this artist who has touched the world by storm in the early stages of his career. P. Scott has a fascination and desire to be anything but the norm. This fascination began in 1983 in Detroit, Michigan at the age of 13 while attending a neighborhood party by a local Detroit group who went by the name Sharevari. It was at this time that P. Scott received his first lesson and exposure to what was then called progressive music.

From that point, more influence came from local area artists and disc jockeys such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and the Electrifying Mojo (Charles Johnson). Exposure to Chicago’s WBMX and WGCI, which featured artists and disc jockeys such as Chip E, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Larry Heard, also played a factor in shaping P. Scott’s musical direction.

After purchasing his first set of turntables in 1984, P. Scott began to hone his DJ skills. He played at local venues throughout the city of Detroit with legends such as Ken Collier and Jeff Mills and hold a most notably weekly residency at the Amsterdam Lounge (Windsor, Ontario) under the promotional group Cybersoul T.Q.E. While continuing to develop as a DJ, P. Scott began to remix music using two cassette recorders, a drum machine and turntables. Although these remixes never made it out of his basement, this was the beginning of his evolution as a producer. In the following years he focused more and more on his studio production skills and his own label Sistrum Recordings.

Sistrum Recordings imprint was launched in October of 2006. The first release “Atmospheric Emotions” received rave reviews from many far and abroad. Since, P. Scott’s releases have been charted by the likes of Henning Around, Efdemin, DJ Fader, Lawrence, Danilo Plessow and many more. His vision for Sistrum is to continue to provide quality music for the masses and to never deviate from the bar: do not be afraid to be different! And: always create from the heart, whatever moves you, whatever you feel.

At a time when so much techno feels like endless variations on a played-out theme, it’s heartening to know that there are still a handful of artists, labels and DJs who can combine experience, skill and forward-looking ideals in style. Step forward Jeremy P. Caulfield, who amply ticks all of the above boxes.

As proprietor of leading neuro-minimal imprint Dumb-Unit, DJ of widely-acclaimed repute, and occasional producer of stripped-back, ominous dancefloor bombs, Jeremy has emerged from his early days on the Canadian techno circuit to become a leading light of today’s underground club scene. Using his fifteen years of DJing experience as a springboard, Jeremy has utilised Dumb-Unit as a pivotal platform for the blossoming careers of artists including Butane, Lee Curtiss, Sweet N’ Candy and Seph, loosely defining a hinterland micro-scene of murky, intricate sounds that play with the darkest recesses of the mind while remaining firmly attached the propulsive drive of the dance-floor.

It’s an ambiguous definition best articulated by his series of Detached:Works mix tapes and CDs, which over the course of three volumes and 10 years neatly plots Jeremy’s evolution from sparky underground enthusiast to undisputed connoisseur of finely-tuned contemporary techno. From early residencies at Toronto’s legendary Blue and Fukhouse parties (where he knocked around with like-minded local jocks Adam Marshall, Ian Guthrie and Jeff Milligan, while playing alongside techno deities like Richie Hawtin, Derrick May and Jeff Mills), Jeremy’s established himself as one of North America’s finest DJs. In 2008 alone, alongside his residency at Watergate, (in his adopted home of Berlin) Jeremy has played nearly every weekend across the globe, including gigs at renown clubs and festivals such as Fabric, Fuse, Mutek, and the Sonne Mond Sterne Festival and tours of Japan, Australia and South America

Meanwhile, his rare but intricate rocking live shows surface every once in a while to remind us that his darkly-tinged, boiled-down beats and distantly unsettling grooves are one of the most precious jewels in the jagged DU crown. Check his killer releases Dumb-Unit, Trapez and WMF if you need any proof.

Somewhere between his smart, re-edit heavy sets, his vigorously spiky artist releases, and his scandalously consistent label, there lurks the charred, elusive heart of Jeremy P. Caulfield. The fun part is trying to find it.

Starting out in 2006 and at the begining a duo, Citizen Kain soon found themselves catapulted into the midst of the international scene. Initially releasing on the Barcelona label Regular, they were signed for several EPs delivering a quality Electro Techno feel before releasing their first album «Body Bombshell » in 2007. It wasn’t until 2008 when their style began to evolve and gravitate towards a techno vibe that they really began to make the headlines. With the release of their hit « Doppelgänger » on MBF, they enjoyed playlisting across the techno community with the single finding its way through dancefloors all over the world. This was followed by several EPs on labels such as Killabeat, Malatoid, and Harthouse.

In 2009, after several releases on MBF and Playmobil, Chris left the band for professional reasons and Bruno who still had been the leader of Citizen Kain continues alone the project. He left the studio with the first two releases on his own label under his belt and built its reputation rapidly by signing up remix talent from the likes of international artists such as Pfirter, Pablo Bolivar, Abnormal Boyz, and Uto Karem as well as the best of emerging talent including Viktor Leske, Hans Bouffmyhre and Spartaque. His releases enjoy regular support from artists such as Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Monika Kruse, Felix Krocher, Len Faki, Slam, Tomcraft, Joseph Capriati, Ahmet Sendil, Mihalis Safras, Martin Eyerer, Agoria, Chris Fortier or Marc Depulse … to named a few …

Today, whether it be a Live session or a DJ set, Citizen Kain’s music consistently demonstrates a respect for purist techno with powerful, chunky beats carefully arranged with energetic percussion and haunting melodies. The entertaining performances and infectious energy during his sets leaves no dancefloor unturned ! Constantly in the studio, we can expect numerous releases in the months to come on Frequenza, Djanemba, Dirty Players, Beat Em Up, Boeing or Bosphorus Uderground and of course on his very own label Neverending…

AFTER SEVERAL EXCURSIONS INTO DIFFERENT MUSICAL STYLES SUCH AS DEATH METAL AND HIP HOP IN HIS TEENAGE YEARS, ARNE FINALLY DISCOVERED TECHNO MUSIC AT THE AGE OF 21.
SINCE THAT TIME HE BECAME INFECTED AND SOON STARTED TO DEEJAY. AFTER PRACTISING HIS TURNTABLE SKILLS AT HOME, HE BECAME A RESIDENT DEEJAY AT THE DEPOT CLUB IN TUEBINGEN, WHERE HE RAN A MONTHLY PARTY EVENT FOR 5 YEARS. THERE HE MET WITH ARTISTS LIKE OLIVER KAPP, FABRICE LIG, SHAKE, PACOU, DJ TIM AND LOTS OF OTHERS, AND DEVELOPED HIS PASSION FOR THE DEEPER SHADES OF TECHNO MUSIC, ESPECIALLY COMING FROM DETROIT.
IN 2000 ARNE DECIDED TO MAKE HIS FIRST ATTEMPTS AT PRODUCING DEEP MELODIC TECHNO HIMSELF WITH ONLY A COMPUTER, AND SOON REALISED THAT HE NEEDED TO GET SOME REAL GEAR TO EXPRESS HIMSELF AUTHENTICALLY. ARMED ONLY WITH A FEW PIECES OF GEAR HE STARTED TO DO HIS FIRST REAL TRACKS AND SOON GOT A RECORD DEAL WITH FRANKFURT BASED LABEL PROPAGANDA.
HIS FIRST 12″, THE “THROUGH THE COLONNADES” EP WAS RELEASED IN EARLY 2001 AND GAINED SOME GOOD REACTIONS SUCH AS GETTING CHARTED BY LAURENT GARNIER. BECOMING FAR MORE INFLUENCED BY DEEP ELECTRONIC MUSIC, ARNE BEGAN BUILDING HIS STUDIO AND HIS OWN MUSICAL STYLE. SOON HE GOT IN CONTACT WITH OTTO KOPPIUS, LABEL OWNER OF THE DUTCH GROUNDZERO/KEYNOTE LABEL, AND GOT HIS SECOND RELEASE, THE “SNOWFLAKE” EP IN 2002.
AFTER THAT A LOT OF 12″ES FOLLOWED, RELEASED ON LABELS SUCH AS STARBABY, DOWN LOW, HEADSPACE AND TECHNOIR AUDIO TO NAME A FEW.
IN THE FUTURE MANY OTHER PROJECTS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM HIM, FOR EXAMPLE RELEASES ON MATRIX DETROIT, AFFECTED, STYRAX, FRANTIC FLOWERS AND MORE.
HE IS NOW LIVING IN THE FRANKFURT AREA WHERE HE CONCENTRATES ON HIS OWN PRODUCTIONS AND THE DEEP SIDES OF SOULFUL ELECTRONIC MUSIC. HE FOUNDED HIS OWN LABEL “AW-RECORDINGS” IN 2004 AND RELEASED HIS FIRST ALBUM “PATH OF THE GODS” IN EARLY 2007 ON HIS LABEL. IN 2008 HE MOVED TO GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.

Eric Estornel, under the names MAETRIK, MARIEL ITO, MACEO PLAEX, and simply ESTORNEL – has been contributing to his musical world around him since 1993. Always searching for the future of electronic dance, Eric has never let himself be confined by the rules of styles or genres as he makes his way through such a political and fickle industry. As a Cuban American, Eric has always been around music. His father was a salsa musician and enthusiast, and at a very early age Eric became fascinated with musical composition and began experimenting with different acoustic and electronic instruments. In 1991 at the age of 14 Eric discovered electronic music from a local radio show. Quickly Eric grew infatuated with the electronic sounds and intricate percussion and grew more and more fascinated with the Dj culture and Production side of the industry. By 1993 Eric was experimenting with mixxing music of many styles and quickly became a major vinyl junkie and techno enthusiast with a broad knowledge and love for all forms of electronic music, not just techno. By 1995 Eric was a known and respected young local DJ , when he really focused on his talents in his production. Collecting and toying with different cheap synthesizers and drum machines and emulating his idols from Aphex Twin to Maurizio. And by 96 he was already developing his unique blend of techno and electro. Fast foward to present day, Eric with all of his different sudonyms has released a very large catalog of singles and albums on labels like Mothership, Dumb Unit, Resopal, Sender, Treibstoff, Modern Love, Morris Audio, AI, Immigrant, Sub Static, Scsi Av, Onitor, etc… etc…

His background in mathematics and engineering have given him a scientific approach to the dance floor. His music production has landed him a seat with Beretta Music and FXHE in Detroit, Kontra-Musik in Sweden, Modelisme Records in France, and Echocord in Denmark. His first release on FXHE made it into the top 50 releases of the year in 2007 in Groove Magazine.

With 8 years of DJ experience, he is regarded as a perfectionist behind the decks, layering records in a very detailed and hypnotic manner. Luke has notable mixes online and in 2003 recorded a promotional mix CD release for UR/Submerge. Luke’s continued hard work behind the decks and in the studio combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.

Year 2000, he joined “The Flame” crew, which is at the farefront of music reality in most of Italy. With The Flame crew he started to have the first contact with decks and vynils, whilst keeping contact with the people that always followed him to the best underground parties. He moved to London in 2001 to make deeper his music knowledge and in summer 2002 he got a weekly residency on sunday night at “Turnmills”, also playing at “The Arches”, “Crash”, “The Egg”, “AKA (The End)”, “The Rex”. January 2007: he is in studio, producing for Safari Electronique with Arnaud Le Texier. Their first track “Awakenings” is on the Safari Sampler 4. He is also producing with Toni D for Kailash and Rubber Band. Their “Hazard EP” on Kailash, with remixes by Mark Broom and Le Texier, is out at the beginning of 2008. In January 2009 more releases to come: “Liberacion EP” on Safari Electronique with Toni D and rmx by Tolga Fidan. The music he plays is basically techno in all its electronic shades.

2004 Dirt Crew aka James Flavour and Break 3000 launched Dirt Crew Recordings after releasing their first EP’s “Cleaning up the Ghetto Part 1+2″ on MBF. The track “Rok Da House” became one of the key records of 2004, the beginning of the Electro House hype and a big hit that gave the guys worldwide recognition on the dancefloors. Also Moodmusic released two 12′s with the brilliant “808 Lazerbeam” and “Darkside” in 2004 and the “Domino” E.P. in 2005, but things really got wild when they remixed Sasse’s “Soul Sounds” which again went straight in the charts and was voted one of the best remixes of 2005 in the german “Groove” magazine and has been dropped by all major DJ’s. They also remixed the first single of the „Who made Who“ album on Gomma in 2005 and made classic remixes for artists and labels like Jennifer Cardini, Silicone Soul, 2020 Vision, Crosstownrebels, Freerange and Breastfed.

Due to their success and productivity they decided to start up their own labels named Dirt Crew Recordings and Players Paradise. Straight from the start Dirt Crew Recordings went off into the charts with the super massive remix of “Largo” by Dominik Eulberg who has set his path for success with this particular remix and is now one of Germans leading producers. But also the hot first single by Dirt Crew “What you Want” released in October 2004 is still a highlight in the whole retro old school scene. With the massive singles of James Flavour, Break 3000, Tigerskin and Jennifer Cardini the label proved to have an excellent output. With new artist like Prudo, Adultnapper, Sian and Drum Cult the label expands its view on quality house and minimalistic sounds. Combining these new artists with well known heroes of the scene like Andre Kraml and Spirit Catcher proved to be the key of success. Dirt Crew Recordings will follow this path in the future and will keep on promoting da real house sound.

Their second label Players Paradise was launched in 2005 as an offspring of Dirt Crew Recordings because the guys wanted to promote other genres as well in their catalogue and also this label took off really fast with the first two singles by Sweet Slave and Martinez. Taking it even deeper and more towards deep house but still combining it with the new crisp sound from the minimal scenes. Big remixes from Mike Monday and Serge Santiago got the people moving to the dirty sound and with new faces like the italian producer Marcello Giordani who presents his Italo-house grooves or Glasgows Mash with his sleazy Nu-Disco tracks the Dirt Crew also shows the world that there’s more to house music.

Bernard Siefert alias NHAR
Making his first steps in production with the 22 Crew, Nhar is now mainly working on his own eponym solo project, under which he since 2005 has released vinyl records on labels such as Plak, Mobilee, Modelisme and also exclusive digital releases on both Plex and (again) Plak.
Nhar’s music could be described as a mix between low minimal grooves, deviant but funky tech/house sequences and more melancholic soundscapes. Always with focus on the hypnotic moments in the music, he plays tricks in your mind. Listen carefully… Not only a dj with more than 10 years behind the decks, he is also performing live with full hardware set-up.
Back in 2002, Nhar make his first steps in production with the 22 Crew and since, he’s now mainly working on his own eponym solo project and start in 2005 he release his music on various labels like Plak, Mobilee, Modelisme, Meerestief, Soniculture to name a few.

Not based on any trend but more dedicated to a stong personality, Nhar’s music could be described as a mix between low minimal wounded grooves and deviant but funky tech-house sequences. He plays some tricks in your mind with his very own kind of minimal techno with both chimic and melancholic influences, always aim to hypnotic and emotional moments.

About the stage side, Nhar has been resident for 3 years in the (in)famous french afterhours BarLive and during his 11 years long’s experience that he spent behind the decks, the man take the chance to take control of the sound sytems of many european floors. He’s also doing live sessions always up to date with his last sonic creations.
