Slow and low, groovy but staunch, this new French band are addictive to say the least – check out their extensive list of influences included this week on our DT Podcast…

It’s a nostalgic tribute to the songs we loved and still come back to.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Northside’s ‘Shall We Take a Trip’. A song that we play live from time to time.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The special ingredient would be more in the selection than in the mix. It’s all songs that had a great influence on us and passed the test of time.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Chateau de Keriolet, old school rave atmosphere.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
The dance, slow jams in particular, is usually known as “the vertical expression of horizontal desires” or “sex standing upright”; desire being the operative emotion.

Sound design and mastering students Frederic Möring-Sack and Christian Jonquieres, are Piemont, a deep and techy duo who own two labels, Suchtreflex and Plumbum. Finding influences from deeply heavy timbres in hip hop, metal and of course, techno, their modern and cutting edge productions are something to behold. Their tracks are still being played out all over the world, particularly ‘Carbonat’ and ‘Black Smoker’, fixing them at the top of the German house producer tree. They’re releasing new remix EP Sand Hills, a collection of remixes of their track from Uner, Sante and more – and of course, after hearing their brilliant second album in April of the same name and the source of these gorgeous remixes, we thought we’d invite them to put together the first of this week’s double podcasts. Sit back and allow Piemont to take you where you want to go.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
These tunes are Piemont’s personal top picks for this summer :D

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Well, hard to decide. We think Uner’s remix of our track “Instead of multiple” is one of our favorite for the moment! Hugo’s remix of “Run-Down” is hot as well :)

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Three unreleased and yet unknown tracks and remixes of us…

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
There were a lot of memorable gigs this summer… our gig at the Spring Festival (Graz, Austria) is worth mentioning!

What have you got coming up?
We have two releases coming up: The first one is called “Purist” and will be released in August with a fantastic remix by Andhim on our label Plumbum. Finally we have a release on Yellow Tail coming up: That one is entitled “Managua” and will include a remix by Thomas Schumacher!

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Dark, Heavy, Funky, Uplifting, Deep, Nasty, Naughty, Succulent, Hard & Fresh!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Subscape – Turn Me On.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
There’s way too many to mention, but played for DJ N-Type’s Wheel & Deal party in Amsterdam at Paradiso, which is always such an amazing place to perform. I love the energy of the dutch crowds, and they dig all styles of dubstep, so you can really take the set anyway you want to go.

What have you got coming up?
My new EP entitled ‘First Flight’ will be out in July on Dub Police, then lots of touring across the UK, Europe & America for the rest of the summer.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

DJ Marky is possibly one of the most famous names in drum and bass. The colourful Brazilian was first picked up by Movement and Bryan Gee around the early half of last decade on a South American tour, noticed for his energetic DJ style, inch perfect selections and summery, feel good vibe.

After releasing ground breaking tracks, being a fixture at now defunct The End and then joining the Fabric crew, mixing a golden and well informed Fabric mix and running his own imprint Innerground, DT are proud to welcome this legendary DJ and producer to mix our DT Podcast for this week, before a much awaited performance at Manchester’sParklife Weekender, running from June 9th – 11th. Featuring new cuts from UK’sTechnicolour, Germany’s tech warriors Phace and newcomers Furney and Level2, hold on to your hats and don your shades as we go for a ride with DJ Marky.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Upfront Drum & Bass with some added sunshine from Brazil!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Probably “Assault” by Level II. I’m really into a lot of the music he is putting out at the moment and of course I have to support my fellow countrymen!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Simplicity, I think. I want to take things back to when it was all about the music – both in the mixing and the tunes themselves. Hopefully that comes across in the mix

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Well I’ve played quite a few shows recently, but I have to say that the last Marky & Friends party at Fabric was absolutely amazing. Everything came together – the vibe, the other artists playing, the crowd; that was a great night.

What have you got coming up?
I’m in the UK for a couple of weeks with shows in Serbia, Portugal, Lille and a couple of UK shows like Parklife in Manchester. Then it’s a quick trip to America for a couple of shows and then back to Europe for the release of my single Yellow Shoes and the next Marky & Friends at Fabric. So a lot going on but it’s all really exciting!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thanks for all your support, it means so much to me, and enjoy the mix!

Well….where to start with a character, label boss and figurehead such as the irreplaceable Josh Wink. Still going strong after decades at the forefront of dance music, his successful OVUMlabel (established in 1994), which houses the likes of newcomers such as M A N I K and stalwarts such as Nic Faniculli, Shlomi Aber and many more. In fact, Josh is a mentor in the world of dance music, using his expertise and knowledge to facilitate the broad history of dance music – old and new.

From his cut ‘Liquid Summer’ in 1994 to releasing tunes for R&S and XL Recordings, the US don really blew to stratospheric proportions in 1995 with hits ‘Don’t Laugh’ and ‘A Higher State of Consciousness’, and has since never lost his integrity or vision.

He constantly releases tunes and graces the world’s hottest nightspots with his famously demanding sets, whilst at the same time running Ovum, hosting a radio show every Thursday on Sirius XM Radio in the US, and will be playing London based festival The South West Four Weekender in a special summer performance. Ladies and Gentleman, DT is proud to present Josh as the latest hero to helm our weekly podcast

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The vibe I got from the crowd I was playing for.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Just did a tour in Holland two weeks ago. Each gig was amazing! 3 gigs, 3 cities, 3 days. Super fun!

What have you got coming up?
Lots of great things on Ovum Recordings, new artist LP’s from M A N I K, Remix LP from Shlomi Aber, and new single releases! Along with spring/summer tour dates, of course the return to South West Four where i’ll be playing the Cocoon arena alongside Sven Vath and Loco Dice and a new joshwink.com website launch!

Pezzner may not be as instantly recognizable as a heavyweight name in the realms of house and techno, but the underground sound designer and techo / house producer likes it that way. Making waves with his breakthrough track ‘The Tracks Are Alive‘ on Freerange music and in recent times, Pezzner’s mix of ethereal and boundary pushing sounds has received much love and support, releasing on staple labels such as Mothership and Ghostly International, as well as more recently on sturdy labels Om and Urbantorque. When he’s not fiddling with the dials on his own exquisite productions, he’s usually found as part of duo Jacob London, as well as composing music for American Idol, The Discovery Channel, Nordstrom, and T-Mobile.

There’s a new album on the way on Freerange – his second solo effort to date aside from his usual production partner – so Data Transmission asked this bright hopeful to offer us a more comprehensive look at what keeps this underground man ticking. The results are below…

Interview

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I’m going to have to say it’s the space between Bas Amro’s “Sound Killa” (Freerange) andCosmin TRG’s “Magnetic Bodies” (Rush Hour). For me something magical happened when those two songs were mixed together. Did you feel it too?

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I think a little bit of love. For this mix, I spent a lot of time selecting the songs – almost an entire day narrowing down my promos and shopping for new music, and through all this I discovered some inspiring new sounds! Labels like Pictures Music and Hotflush are new to me as well as artists like Koreless, whom I’ve recently become a massive fan of, and Cosmin TRG just came seemingly out of nowhere while searching for the right songs for this mix. It’s not often that I really get a chance to sit down and explore dance music in this way so its a real treat when I feel like I’ve discovered something new. Funny thing is the first song that went into my pool of music was Hanssen’s remix of Ian Pooley’s “So Good“, so in a way, all the tracks on this mix were intended to lead in and out of this song.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Hands down the best show was in Turin for “We Play The Music We Love” at Gamma Clublast February. The energy that came from this audience was priceless and is one of the things that keeps me going.

What have you got coming up?
I’m happy to say that I’m officially working on my 2nd album for Freerange, we’re hoping for a release date early 2012. This summer we can look forward to an EP for Nick Curly andGorge’s8 Bit imprint, as well as remixes for artists like Underworld, Dirty Vegas, Floyd Lavine, Atnarko, Francesco Bonora and some others.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thank you for listening.

Dutchman Jeroen Snik – AKA Icicle – is a shape-shifting entity in the world of drum and bass.

In fact, he’s difficult to keep pinned down to one scene in particular – using the drum and bass drum pattern as a template, this innovative and prolific producer crosses into the realms of house, techno, dubstep and chill out with his influences – all with the slightest turn of hand – with every track sound crisp, fresh and starkly cold with his trademark fattened drums and detailed ambience flowing through.

He’s released tracks on nearly every decent drum and bass label around from RAM toRenegade Hardware, and gained much hype after releasing Dreadnaught on Shogun Audio – the label that he chooses to stay in to release his debut full length ‘Under The Ice’.

DT welcomes Icicle to the fold with open arms as he turns out a creative and interesting ride through drum and bass, also splattered with his much hyped productions. So sit back, open your ears and prepare for the blizzard – a storm is about to kick off.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Dark and deep techno to dubstep to drum and bass. I’m really into the Blawan track.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I’d say the blend of different styles. For me it really keeps recording podcasts interesting, I can experiment a little bit more than on the dance floor.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I just played in Paris last weekend amongst other places. I had never played there before so it was a long time coming. It turned out to be great. The atmosphere and people really made an impression on me.

What have you got coming up?
So many gigs I can barely keep track. Im touring my album ‘under the ice’ right now. All the dates are on www.undertheice.org.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Stay in school and buy my album!!

Sweden’s Linus Eklow has changed his style more times than Lady Gaga has costume changes in a week. But he’s no bandwagon-jumping, short-attention-span-having attention-seeker – more one to stay ahead of the crowds and do it in some style. From his early jacking house days through his period of big-riffed euphoric electro house, through massive quirky tracks like The Big Kazoo on Dirtybird and into the banging noisy madness of his current work with the likes of Slagsmalsklubben. Most importantly, he always does it with much aplomb, and you could never accuse his work of being boring. It’s hyperactive, charismatic, colourful, energy-packed stuff.

This week’s Podcast sees this favourite of Annie Mac’s rip through a selection of full-on, mind-mashing grooves for lovers of bass and bleeps. Approach with caution; handle with care.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
This is basically stuff that I love to dance to.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Bubonic.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Its a track that WAS in the beginning that I had to take away last minute, due to legal reasons, a remix of M.I.A by Tony Senghore. It worked kind of like the emperor´s new clothes, it formed the mix, but then was taken away.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I had a fantastic time at The Rex club in Paris recently with Djedjotronic.

What have you got coming up?
We are doing remixes of mine and Magnus The Magnus track Antidote, that will be released in December. with mixes from Harvard Bass and Tony Senghore. Also working on an E.P for Sound Pellegrino that will be released early next year called Wet and Dry. I´m going on a US-tour in december, and I´m very excited about going to L.A for the first time.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Yes, Less carbs, more fat.

Set up in 2002, Critical Records is a “D&B label that isn’t defined by a particular sub-genre” according to Kasra. “Instead, the focus is mainly on good-quality, well produced D&B. That’s it in a nutshell.” They’ve steadily grown to become one of the most respected labels in the scene, with releases this year from the likes of former DT Podcaster Rockwell, Sabre, and Total Science making them one of those imprints to always keep your eyes on. With such rude A&R skills, Kasra makes for an excellent choice if you want to hear what the good and great of experimental D&B are up to.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Rolling drum and bassline music with a twist of lime

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
My favourite tune at the moment is Cracker by Enei & Eastcolours. Serious music from Russia.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I feel it’s a snapshot of exciting underground drum and bass music right now. Ive always been a lover of the roller and heres some choices ones.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Definitely the Critical Sound party at Fabric in August.

What have you got coming up?
The next single is the Break Remix of Total Science & Riyas Redlines. Then singles from S.P.Y, Cyantific and another EP from Rockwell. Check www.criticalmusic.com or www.facebook.com/criticalmusicdnb for the lastest.

The Berlin duo are mainstays at Oliver Koletzki’s Stil Vor Talent label, and we caught them play one of their devastating live sets at the now-defunct Club 103 in Berlin back in 2008, in the month that DT launched. We cannot recommend highly enough jumping at the chance to see them do their thang and to hear those crisply-produced, sub-laden grooves in the flesh – but for now, this excellent DJ mix will have to do the trick. And boy does it do that…

Although the name Rodriguez Jr. has only been floating around properly for a few years, Olivier Mateu – the man behind the moniker – has been big in the dance music game for a decade now. As one half of French electro-techno act The Youngsters, he’s been a mainstay for Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications label, played at the world’s biggest clubs and festivals and won awards and accolades galore.

But after so many years of being locked into one project, he gave himself a rebirth as Rodriguez Jr., and 2008’s Piña Colada on Claude VonStroke’s Mothership vindicated his decision to go in a new direction. Emerging from the minimal trend but with more musicality, warmth, groove and vigour than a lot of the genre, it was one of those refreshing, effervescent records that stuck in your head and really brought something new to the table. More releases for Boxer Recordings (see Paul Ritch) and then Leena lead on to a signing to Leena’s big sister, Mobilee Records, and this year he’s set to break through into the wider cognoscenti’s collective consciousness.

This mix sees him explore spooky, tribal, stripped-back ethnic flavours, rolling tech house and plenty of those twinkling synth scales that typify many of his tracks. And a couple of very classy bits to start and finish…

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
An unlinear and eclectic mix of cool material to enjoy spring time.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
The first one, 1976 by Ripperton. I can’t stop to listening to his stunning and beautiful album.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Funky chicks like melodies, so I always try to put load of them in my mixes.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Maybe Rex Club in Paris … always feeling like home there.

What have you got coming up?
A couple of new EPs I am very proud of : Princess Guacamole EP on Mobilee, and Lac De Nivelles EP on Systematic – a record I did with my buddy Marc Romboy including a brilliant remix by Glimpse. I am also working massively on my first solo album, which I would like to be released this year! And I am lucky enough to tour a lot, so summer time will be busy.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Stay passionate believers in music – I hope to come to your cities and share the vibes with all of you soon.

Here’s what he had to say about this special mix he’s done for us:

“Artists are always asked some mix for radio shows, webzines…short ones, then longer ones, then… there’s always a new brief to make what finally appears to be quite the same thing. This project I’ve been working on for a while is different, at least to me: it’s my own Yuksek mix.

As I’m about to finish the “Away From The Sea” tour, I wanted to make a review of all the things that happened to me last years: all the people I met, the collaborations I had the chance to do, the artists I discovered and liked….

I started with the remixes I did this 3 last years, and added to the remixes other artists and friends made of my own tracks.

Hope you enjoy it people!”

Yuksek’s new EP with Brodinski as The Krays feat. Ebony Bones We’re Ready When You Are! Is out now on new label Abracadabra.

Her debut album on Infiné, Polyamour, is an absolutely stunning collection of pretty, delicate melody and beatless soundscapes, and turgid, sexy tech house grooves with lashings of sub-bass and jacking percussion.
We knew we had to get someone very special for our 100th podcast, and we thought that getting just another DJ could be a bit boring. So…

This mix is a Battlejam special. When Beardyman, (2x UK Beatbox champion and general musical innovator) and JFB (2007 UK DMC Champion) play together it’s Battlejam. They run a night of that name in Brighton and London and have had all kinds of special guests down to play including Rob da Bank, DJ Skully, Rusko, Stereotype and some really leftfield live-loopers and guest musicians.

This special podcast sees Beardyman creating full tracks using his mouth, samplers and effects units, plus some fat tracks, some weird adverts, and a couple of prank calls…

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
My personal favourite track on the podcast… its a toss-up between Latex Quim, a track I made which’ll be out on my upcoming debut album, or Head-Screws by long-time friend and collaborator MC Klumzytung who’s work features prominently on the mix. The Fatboy Slim Prank call is my favourite but though I think.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The whole thing is a live performance. We did the prank calls beforehand and scratched them in live, the links are all live performances, I do stuff, JFB samples me and scratches with it, the angels weep.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I’ve been taking time off from gigs to record an album and work out a way to kidnap Cheryl Cole. Did a sick gig with The Jungle Drummer in Cambridge in February though that was hot like molten Amen breaks.

What have you got coming up?
My UK and Ireland tour the “Open Sauce” Tour is coming up at the end of April. You can suggest mash-ups of incngruous tunes, weird mixtures of genres that you’d never think would work and unlikely song topics you’d never normally hear and i’ll do em all at the gigs! You can post suggestions to #Beardytour or post them on my facebook page…or just shout them at the gig at the appropriate moment, but to be fair some of the venues are pretty big so its best to post it up in advance if you want to stand a chance of me actually hearing your suggestion.

All details and booking info can be found on my facebook page, www.facebook.com/therealbeardyman
JFB will be there in support, I’ll be challenging him to make sick tunes ‘live’ out of the worst music I can find, hahaha…it’s gonna be fucking awesome. See you there.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
I love you and I’m sorry…let’s never fight again…

Sharam Jey has a long and proud history in dance music. He’s never been one of those A-list names, but from the cooler blend of groovy trance he touted in the late ‘90s (as Billy Hendrix) to the groovy house of Shake It in 2003 to the electro-disco of the mid-2000s up to his present day, he’s got a lot to be proud of. With a new album, In My Blood, out now, we thought it was about time to get a Podcast from him – and his mix of hooky electro grooves and upfront disco is a real peak-time thriller.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
From edgy funky new disco sounds to banging electroclash beats.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
That is difficult to tell. Usually I build up my live sets from a more deep-funky sound at the beginning over to more danceable stuff to heat up the crowd up to some banging eletrco tunes to finally hit them on the head and make them scream for more.

And with this mix I tried to put all these emotions in just a 1-hour-mix. So this is so to say the essence of my sets. But If I would need to name one it would be of course my current single Army Of Men with Cornelia on vocals which is taken from ym new album In My Blood. Remixed by Disco Trash Music, some talented guys from Germany

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
As I said with this mix I try to range from Blondie-like disco-elements with some hymnic vocal tracks to pumping sounds to get people in the right mood for a nice night out in the club. Plus you will get some nice gimmicks like some old school ’80s samples newly interpreted.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
The last 3 months I was fully engaged with my album in the studio and office. Now the album is out I am ready to hit the clubs on a worldwide tour again.

But one of my most memorable gigs was the Hultsfred-Festival in Sweden last year where I was the only DJ among just rockbands like The Strokes or The Babyshambles. I also enjoyed palying in front of 20,000 people at Tomorrowland in Belgium also last year. You can have a look at it on YouTube.

What have you got coming up?
Well, the highlight recently has been the release of my new album In My Blood. It features some great tunes like Monday Morning with Princess Superstar. She already loved the original instrumental club version and she had the idea do vocals on it. The track The Things features Tommie Sunshine on vocals. Honestly I was a sceptical on this but the result just blows me away.

Currently as I said Army Of Men is out as a single with remixes by Arthur Baker TAI, Dirty Disco Youth and more and a video that is just eye candy.

The next single will be “Hearts Of Stone” featuring Andreas Hogby who is the singer of Swedish rockband Torpedo. I got to know him from the director of both the “Monday Morning” and the “Army Of Men” videos. He told me about that rock guy who would like to go a bit more electronic with his music and wanted to sound like my productions. So he quickly agreed to do a song on the album and the collaboration was cut and dried.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Be positive, stay true to yourself and have fun in what you are doing… And of course support my album as I have put lots of endless nights and passionate work in it…

Thanks!

This duo have made serious waves over the last couple of years, combining that distinct thumping Dutch house sound with a little rolling groove, some choice vocals, and plenty of melody. Having graced labels like Strictly Rhythm, Defected and Flashover and appearing on dozens of compilations in Holland and across the world (Pure Kandi, Toolroom Knights,Sneakerz), their name is now a global commodity.

Their Podcast for us is packed with their own material – including some very special unreleased bootlegs. If you like what you hear, make sure you check their headline appearance at Liaison at Pacha London on Saturday 6th March – and get your tickets right here (the cheapest on the entire internet!):http://www.datatransmission.co.uk/events_view.aspx?eventID=3877

Where does your name come from?
We couldn’t find a suitable name and then one night we had a few drinks and we came up with this. We thought it was too crazy but friends loved the name so we kept it.

How did you get into the game and how did you meet?
First we were friends and then we found out we had the same taste in music. We started to produce together for a few years before we started Bingo Players.

Do you make tracks which are an expression of how you feel or which are something that will work on the dance floor?
We think it’s a mixture of both. We always start with creating something that we feel and afterwards we try to apply some tricks to make it work on the dancefloor.

Where does all the energy in your productions come from?
To create something that you really love, automatically triggers a lot of energy.

Do you prefer making beats or playing them?
It’s both very satisfying!

London-based Frenchman Débruit has really been tickling our fancy recently with his tasty EPs. Unclassifiable, they blend hip-hop beats with African sound, random samples, a hint of glitch and a healthy dose of funk. It’s like listening to the contents of a second hand vinyl shop mixed in with a bric-a-brac shop – a random blend of new and old, with an organic feel that mirrors Four Tet in some way – only with a heaiver, “dope” feel to it. He’s a former student of the Red Bull Music Academy, and in our view one of the most exciting producers around right now. This wonderful podcast hops, skips and jumps between Afro rhythms, old skool hip-hop, funk and his own inspiring productions. Groovy throughout.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
THIS IS THE KIND OF MUSIC THAT I LISTEN TO (apart from my own tracks ha ha)

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
They are so different in style that this is an impossible question to answer. It’s like do you prefer dub, african music or hip-hop? All of it!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The selected variety, a story told through a very open lense.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
It happened 3weeks ago, in very special place (some lost abandoned cinema studios) on the outskirts of Paris, 1000 tickets sold out in advance to a very curious, open-minded friendly crowd, art everywhere and people going crazy!

What have you got coming up?
Spatio Temportel EP is in stores now, just sold out though and the second press is on the way next week! People seem to be feeling it a lot – it’s got 3D artwork from www.rainbowmonkey.de again.

After that there’s plans for my album late this year, watch out for that – it’s gonna be pretty special! Another 12″ soon featuring my own special version of Ginuwine’sPony in the spring so watch out for that, and another Debruit-re-fried hip-hop classic or 2! Some production for others (it’s all a secret right now) a lot of live gigs, festivals, remixes for Rusko, Black Devil Disco Club and more and a very special collab EP or 2!
But most importantly right now I’m telling everyone to buy my Heart Beats For Haiti EP – All the money goes to Unicef’s Haiti Earthquake Disaster relief fund PLEASE PLEASE DONATE/BUY IT HERE! It’s 4 tracks/beats made of Zook and Kompa Samples – the traditional music of Haiti. I put it together in the days after the Earthquake to do something to help and after the hype for my sound on theSpatio Temporel EP it seemed like a great idea. Thanks to everyone who’s helping to make this happen.

PAY/DONATE WHAT YOU WANT (min £3.00)

But as a solo artist, he’s lesser known – chiefly because he’s done less on that front. But the quality is no less. His singles like Nostalgia and Starstrings are absolutely stunning pieces of work, blending all the groove of funk-fuelled house with the classy melody, arrangement and instrumentation that WOW are so well known for.

His excellent podcast runs through a selection of sounds, but always keeps the groove and the melody at the forefront. Lush.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
An aurally pleasing bunch of house tracks mixed together nicely
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
D.O.P - And I. Classic piano melody and haunting male vocals are a winning combination.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Because I don’t stick to one genre, I’d like to think the mix has a certain spicy flavour.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Brazil NYE, beach party with the sunrise is hard to beat.

What have you got coming up?
The next Way Out West release will be a special EP with a bunch of album tracks remixed by various artists. My next solo single Lassoo is due for release on Anjunadeep in March. Oh, and the Gift is being rereleased in March on the recently revived Deconstruction label, alongside some wicked remixes. WOW will be touring Australia at this time for the Future Music festival.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thanks for all the support past, present and future, and I hope you enjoy the mix.

Kidkanveil’s one of those fine UK talents that hasn’t had the credit he deserves.
Remixes for the likes of Alice Russell, Nautral Self and DJ Vadim followed, and his Stateless project was signed to !K7 a few years back (a wonderful band who create delicate, melancholy beauties). But now with his new album Basho Basho he’s turned attention to the murky depths of dubstep and gritty UK bass music, with a tinge of Oriental flavour (he lists his location on MySpace as ‘Tokyorkshire’) – and created a truly inspiring LP. Sort of like a more palatable King Cannibal.

This week’s Podcast sees him sift through his favourite dubstep and thereabouts flavours, with a mix of filthy bass and glitchy, phat beats and some old skool jungle to top it all off. A superb mix we think you’ll agree. Look out for him this February at London’s Red Bull Music Academy.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Radioactive bassbin bananastep beats straight out my basement. Bullet bullet.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
That’s a tough one, I’ma go with Party by mr Blue Daisy. He made it as a kinda throwaway track for his sister’s college project or summin, but it’s proper badman grimey as hell! Ridiculous producer, everyone needs to watch out.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I sprinkled a touch of jungle in at the end.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
It wasn’t that recent as such but the best gig of last year for me was the last day at Soundwave festival in Croatia. Massive crowd going nuts to just about anything I felt liked dropping, beautiful surroundings, big soundsystem. Can’t complain! Was all love!

What have you got coming up?
Next up is my album launch party on the January 15th at Market Place in London. I’ve got Mr Thing, DJ IQ, Illum Sphere and Gilla DJing with me, and Orifice Vulgatron and Testament hosting. Should be dope! Then my album Basho Basho drops on the 18th, gonna follow that with some remixes from Tokimonsta and Blue Daisy. I’ve got Red Bull Music Academy end of Feb, cannot wait for that shit! Then the most immediate thing project-wise is a collaboration with Foreign Beggars I’m workin on, not sure how it will manifest itself yet but it’s gonna be heavy trust! I’ll also be playing Mario Kart a lot.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
My lazers go zoop.

Funky Music for Funky People. Funky Music for Funky People!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Every track have his own spirit and moments. Actually I really love the remix from Gorge made for me. I play this track since few a weeks ago. He made a great job. But the track from Pawas is one of my “I love to play in the morning hours” and I play it on many many clubnights the last year! A beautiful peace of music.

OK we get it! What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
My last gig in Zürich (Switzerland) at the City Fox Party (Alte Börse) was again a fantastic night. It was my second time this year to play there. Cool Promoters, great soundsytem and a partycrowd who wants to rock.

What have you got coming up?
End of January are coming the first remix EP from my Album with Gorge and Joris Voorn. I’m very happy with both tracks. I take at the moment a musician break, but I have to finish next remixes for 8Bit, Souvenier and Resopal.
Anyway, took a little bit of time to get it, but it was WELL worth the wait. After the smooth depths of our last two drum & bass podcasts (Alix Perez and Lynz & Kemo), we’re treated to a fiery blend of peak-time liquid flavours and plenty of rowdy jump-up killers – with a tinge of murky dubstep at the end, all mixed up into one hugely enjoyable high octane ride. If you don’t know them, this is the perfect introduction – with plenty of hot bits from their label and some of the year’s biggest crowdkillers. Brum & bass!

They’ve put together a rip-roaring podcast for us, featuring some of the downright naughtiest electro squiggles of recent months, plus a few anthemic belters. We love it when they get Crooked…

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
That would be Pigeon Dance by Leopold Gregori. He’s a new guy on the block but I reckon he’s gonna do big things. This track is so fresh and interesting with a great melody and crazy noises which are always good.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Love.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Played Tiblisi in Georgia the other month. It was insane. The georgians love us but we have never made it out there before and it was Halloween which made it even madder. Everyone was in fancy dress and one crew had made their own homemade blood splattered evil nine t shirts which we wore on our album launch. I felt quite moved by their attention to detail! It was one of those rare shows where everything was perfect – i was on a good tip with the mixing and the crowd, venue and sound system were outstanding…pretty EPIC! The food there is mighty tasty too!

What have you got coming up?
Well, we just done a remix for Alex Metric’s new single It Starts which features on the mix and is out in most digital outlets now. There’s a remix we made for Don Diablo – This Is Where I Belong – about to drop. We’ve also just collaborated with Spoek, a rapper from Joberg on a new single. It’s his homage to strippers and we reckon it’s pretty BIG. That should be out early next year. On the hip-hop side of things, we done a remix for B Dolan on Sage Francis’ label and a possible Def Jux project in the future. We got a tour coming up in Australia for New Year’s Day and then it’s the Summadayze extravaganza with Fake Blood, Proxy, Riton and so on – and to celebrate that we are releasing a mixtape on iTunes with all-new Marine Parade shit on it. All good goodness.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Look after yourselves this holiday season, get some sleep and eat some sprouts with your turkey.

Week 2 of a 3 week techno onslaught on the DT Podcast comes from Bristol heroes Deepgroove. The duo made their name severak years back with their punchy electro and acid house sound, before progressing as so many others have into the murky world of techno.

But what a progression they’ve made – now bothering legendary labels like Cocoon, Harthouse and REKIDS with their twisted productions. This mix isn’t for the faint-hearted – full of mind-bending, dark, twisted, wonking techno flavours to get the blood bumping.

Catch them playing live at Rabid at SeOne London on Saturday 7th November and their debut album is out on Harthouse recordings called 13 Machines.

In his Podcast, he’s mixed up a load of the ’80s electro funk that influenced him in his formative years, alongside ’nuff big techno and electro belters from the last few months. A damn fine party mix. Put it on when the guests are getting a bit tipsy and watch them go into overdrive when Intro and that special punch you made kick in…
Sum up this pod cast in 10 words…
It’s a mix of music that I like a lot.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Laid Back – White Horse – the groove! I love that baseline; it’s really simple but still amazing!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Coffee – because I drank a lot of it during the making of this mix…

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Ibiza Rocks – just an amazing setting! I love Ibiza! Even though it’s tainted a bit now it still has an amazing vibe!

What have you got coming up?
My third EP is out – the Teknique EP which is already getting amazing responses (the title track is a big old ‘90s-influenced monster!) then a 4th EP later in the year featuring 4 original tracks! I will also be supporting Deadmau5 and Calvin Harris on tour throughout October and November. On top of all this I’m putting the finishing touches to my Album which will be out late spring/early summer 2010!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Enjoy!

Releases for labels like Tsuba, Steve Lawler’s VIVa Music, Murmur, Perc Trax and Supernature should speak for themselves, and as this lush deep house and tech podcast from Bearweasel’s DJ division, Dean Muhsin, shows, they’re not just studio beasts.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
A selection of tracks mixed together for Data Transmission’s lovely listeners.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Bit of a hard one that, as it changes all the time but I’d say Baby Ford’s Westway, just because of it’s simplicity and warmth – the perfect sort of track for a podcast, I think – something you can listen to at home and lose yourself in a bit.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I wanted to do something that manages to sum up what I do as a DJ but would make sense if listened to outside a club situation, so I’ve opted for quite deep grooves and atmospheres rather than anything too heavy. That doesn’t really answer the question, so I’d say the special ingredient in the mix was me being tired, as it kept me from doing anything too driving (with the notable exception of Berkson & What’s Ghosts which I couldn’t leave out, due to the wonderful melodies).

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Well, I’ve got to mention my residency for VIVa at Ministry Of Sound, really – as it’s always my best gig as I love the main room there, and I love warming up too as I get everything my own way! Other than that, I’d have said Mirconite in Limerick or Riff Raff in Middlesbrough – small, provincial nights which are intimate and the people involved are passionate.

What have you got coming up?
Well, because we (myself and Louisa of Bearweasel) had a bit of a slow start to the year with music, we’ve got quite a glut of stuff coming out soon. Remixes for Soma, Get Physical, Luna Records, Take as well as new EPs for Tsuba and VIVa. Gig wise, I’ve got Technique in Leeds with Carl Craig this Friday and then of course, the wonderful Data Transmission shindig in London on Saturday.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Always wash your hands.

When the likes of Renaissance, Cocoon, Trapez, Southern Fried, VIVa Music, SCI+TEC and Dirtybird all come a-knocking at your door, you know you’re onto something pretty special. That’s just some of the incredible list of labels that Kent-bred Tim Green (aka TG) has produced for over the last few years, after being discovered by the ever-impressive Four:twenty Recordings back in 2006.

His brand of techno and tech house has always focused on the groove, with a few memorable quirks and hooks along the way that have won him the affection of many an top-drawer DJ. A fine DJ to boot – as you will hear from this juicy tech house selection – his 2009 has been a deservedly successful one, and he looks to just get bigger and bigger in the coming years. His recent releases on Cocoon and Dirtybird are amongst the year’s hottest grooves, and we’re pleased to bring him to your stereo…

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
A warm groovy funk of snares, vocals and bottom end!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I’d probably say Mamoo by Juno 6. Is such a great freak out record. When the piano starts repeating. It’s such a nervous, interesting sound and rhythm!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Marshmellow.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
An after, after, after-party on a river in Portland US. Was playing back to back with a great DJ called Cynthia! Great time.

What have you got coming up?
I recently remixed Tiefschwarz and Seth Troxler’s track Trust, which is out on their label Souvenir. As well as various gigs in Europe – this weekend The Name Festival in Lille and the Loft Club in Laussanne.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Hope you guys enjoy the mix – is a lot of what I’m into at the moment. Thanks very much!

Whatever you think about Judge Jules, he’s a bit of a legend in UK dance music history, and chances are you’ve at least flirted with a love of his music at some point over the years. Lord knows we have – from his vintage “hardbag” days of the mid-’90s to his trance heyday, we’ve got a lot of love for Radio 1′s most pun-hungry DJ.

This week’s Podcast was recorded live at his hugely successful Judgement Sundays at Eden in Ibiza on August 23rd, complete with crowd noises and everything. It’s a peak-time trance frenzy, and will no doubt send a few tingles up the spines of anyone who’s experienced San Antonio’s most consistently-busy night.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Heatboyer – Happy Ending

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
As I’m sure you can here in this live mix, Judgement Sundays is all about the atmosphere and keeping the music fresh with lots of flavours is a must…

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Probably my weekly Ibiza club night Judgement Sundays, the atmosphere really has to be seen to be believed.

What have you got coming up?
Well you can catch me on BBC Radio 1 each and every Friday from 11-1AM, plus check out my Judgement Sundays Podcast via iTunes and I am playing the final festival of the year, Parklife Festival in Scotland on 12th September.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Really looking forward to Parklife, if it’ anything like previous Scot events it’ certainly going to be loud, see you there!

Judge Jules plays Parklife festival in Scotland on September 12th. Check www.parklifeforever.com for more details.
