Don’t let the name fool you: Dinky is a powerhouse. Inheritor of the diminutive nickname before she was even born, Alejandra Iglesias has grown her stature the old-fashioned way, with focus and determination and, of course, killer DJ skills and a catalog filled with classic, game-changing tracks.

Dinky studied classical dance and piano since early age, moving later in life to a more modern approach of both, but was always marked by the discipline of the classically trained.
Born and raised in Santiago, Dinky is a leading member of Chile’s second generation of electronic-music greats. Caught up in the musical revolution started by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack and Atom Heart in the early ’90s, she taught herself to mix records and was soon appearing at desert raves.
It was in New York, where she had moved in the mid ’90s to join the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, that Dinky’s career began to take off, as she immersed herself in the city’s vital underground scene of the day.
In her early twenties she turned out her first productions; within a couple of years she had release a spate of records in labels as Sonic Groove, Traum and Carpark, ranging from ambient, minimal house, techno to downcast new disco and electronic pop

In 2003, Dinky lit out for Berlin, a city that had captured her imagination nine years earlier during the heyday of E-Werk and Tresor.
It was a good move: by 2005 she would release the massive “Acid In My Fridge” for Sven Väth’s Cocoon imprint,
After that she has never stop touring, and has gone on to become a regular fixture across the continental scene, playing regularly in the most important clubs, like DC10, Fabric, Amnesia or Cocoon Club, while in Berlin she currently holds the honor of a Panorama Bar residency since 2004.

Even if you’ve never caught Dinky live, you can get a good sense for her unique style from her 3 mix CDs, 2007′s Get Lost 03 (Crosstown Rebels), 2008′s Dinky Mixes Horizontal (P-Vine) and Musica Libre (Cocoon 2010)
Folding phrases with origami grace, they present interwoven percussive grooves flecked with scraps of melody; they’re lush and dryly funky, jacking and introspective all at once.
Most important; she never limits herself to one style.

Dinky’s own productions work in similar ways. Whether working with samples, software, hardware or some combination of all three, It’s hard to think of another producer who has imbued the principals of minimalism with such soul.
In 2005 with the launch of her own Horizontal label, she created her own platform for artistic freedom.
In 2008, Dinky released her third album, May Be Later, for Berlin’s Vakant label which was highly acclaimed .The album got the attention of magazine Sound and Recording, the most important recording magazine in Germany, who wrote about its recording process
In 2009, fellow expat-in-Berlin Mathew Jonson invited her to join his Wagon Repair label, resulting in the four-track Lydian EP and her fourth full-length “Anemik” which got the 16th place in the” Albums of the year” on Resident Advisor
In 2010 Dinky joins Ostgut label, she was part of the 5th year anniversary compilation and is about to release a solo 12” due April 2011.

Dinky is also a multi instrumentalist and singer, she plays classical guitar, piano and is trained in classical singing.
During the last year she has focused in an electro acoustic project” Mother Of Seven” where she sings, writes lyrics and composes music.
On this project she has joined forces with her partner Matthew Styles (synths, production, mixing) and guest musicians; Miguel Toro (drums), Seth Josel (guitar) and Tyson Naylor (piano).

German tech-house stalwart Robag Wruhme steps up to the Clash DJ pod platform, and in the spirit of mixing things up and defying expectations, the respected producer has chosen to delve into his early musical upbringing.

Fittingly for an artist who thrives on experimentation within his music, the journey is a delightfully quirky one, featuring shards of a Star Wars cover theme, some classic new wave synth biz from Depeche Mode, b2b classic hip hop from Melle Mel and Public Enemy, and tracks from Sonic Youth and Velvet Undergrounder Nico.

Some fine and unusual choices, but luckily the man himself is on hand to shed some light on his selection:

Clash: Tell us about your mix

Robag: The mix tells you my journey with music from when I was three until twenty-years-old. It’s my own private story. It doesn’t include all the kinds of music of course, but this is the way I have done it.

Clash: You favourite track from the mix?

Robag: All the tracks, because every song has a story.

Clash: What tracks are you currently enjoying playing live?

Robag: I would say but I can’t – it’s not electronic dance music! [Editor’s note – we at the Clash DJ podcast do in fact condone non-electronic music. Occasionally]

Clash: What’s the best remix you’ve heard of one of your own tracks?

Robag: I’ve got just two remixes – one from Luciano and one from Tobi Neumann.

Clash: What do you have planned for the rest of 2011?

Robag: I work in my own library and I work in a kindergarten for some hours during the week.

Robag Wruhme’s latest album, ‘Thora Vukk’, is out now on Pampa.

Published /	25 April 2011

The Jena joker turns in an eclectic mix of hip-hop, pop, chill wave and more.

Delicacy is not necessarily an adjective you’d attach to Robag Wruhme if you saw him behind the decks. Either solo or in tandem with Sören Bodner as the now defunct Wighnomy Brothers, Wruhme has gained a reputation for his boisterous, hard-drinking DJ sets. But scratch the surface of his recorded music, and in particular his recently released Thora Vukk LP for Pampa, and a whole microcosm of elegance and grace is there to enjoy. Wruhme was the production brains behind the Wighnomy Brothers, who from their hometown base of Jena in the east of Germany put out a string of leftfield house and techno releases through Freude Am Tanzen until their split at the end of 2009. During that time they also proffered a seminal mix CD in the form of Metawuffmischfelge, a feat Schablitzki followed up on earlier this year with his excellent Wuppdeckmischmampflow for Kompakt.

Much like his latest full-length, Wruhme has only minor dance floor considerations on his mind for this mix—hip-hop, pop, chillwave, spoken-word and (of course) bags of oddities are much more the order of the day.

What have you been up to recently?

Interviews and podcasts.

How and where was the mix recorded?

In Jena in my bedroom and in my kitchen, with a turntable, apples and a lot of vinyl and CDs.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the idea behind the mix?

“Good Morning” was and is the idea … I hope I can share that.

What are you up to next?

I have to work in my own car wash centre and then I will bring out the vegetables in my garden… it’s April!

Hailing from Paris via London via Istanbul (don’t call him French!), Tolga Fidan is a well travelled individual who’s managed to inject much of his surroundings into his musical output. From the tender age of 14 Tolga could be found playing guitar in numerous post rock outfits and always found himself drawn to the experimental sounds from the likes of Sonic Youth, Autechre, Pansonic, and Fennesz.

Tolga’s musical background provided him with the basis to experiment and lucky for us he found himself absorbed in the world of techno. First releasing with Vakant in 2006, the label which still exclusively releases his original productions, his debut release ‘Now I’m Weak EP’ earned the esteem of fans and techno heavyweights the world over in record time. All the more impressive when you realise that his lush and beautifully produced debut EP was created from the most modest bedroom studio means and mixed on headphones costing less than a round of late night drunken kebabs!

Fast forward four years and Tolga is an established and highly considered artist, recognized for his exceptionally high quality output. His Technique Podcast is no exception and sees Tolga keep the standards high, so batten down the hatches – Tolga is in town!

we begin our 6 part series of the Harry Klein booking agency today with the incredible talents of Dario Zenker. enjoy the mix……

dario zenker has grown in the course of the time into an inherent part in matter of innovative, electronic music. the inhabitant of munich is active in the scene for many years and a full blood musician. what confused us in the legendary and musically pedagogic „green room“ of munichs ultraschall years ago, the modern artist packs it up stimulatingly, unconventionally and brings it on the mainfloor. whether live played or mixed, dario controls his audience. his sets are very multisided, sometimes more technoid and sometimes more housy, but always with a lot of sense for the crowd and an unique groove. all together with a laxity as if the 25 year old has nothing else on his mind. no wonder it all ended up like this. since his childhood he was obsessed with music. at the age of 13 he met dj’s from all over the world which were playing at ultraschall and found accomodation in his old flat. cessation is not an option for him. techno becomes his passion and for that he lives meanwhile up to a 100%. since 2006 he’s resident at harry klein and as expected the first releases came out the same year. since 2008 he’s an inherent part of the vakant crew. his inspiration is life and everything around him, hence, his sound is also enormously many-sided, from mega deep or dubstep up to peak time bomb everything is present. if he doesn’t make music, he listens a lot to jazz and old nyc hip hop, but also all other kinds of music. together with his brother he runs the label ilian tape and is a part of harry klein records.
