A suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of a teenager on Singer Island.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael Troy Hutto was arrested at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville on Friday. Riviera Beach police say Hutto was brought to the hospital because he was having a medical emergency.
He was later taken to Duval County Pre-Trial by troopers.
Hutto is the 54-year-old co-founder of the Salt Life brand, according to the Lake City Reporter.
Riviera Beach Police identified the 18-year-old woman as 18-year-old Lora Grace Duncan, of Lake City in northeast Florida.
Police found Duncan Thursday morning at the Singer Island Oceanfront Palm Beaches Resort with a single gunshot wound. Her killing is being considered a homicide.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Duncan voluntarily left that area with a man. Police in Riviera Beach found her body following a request by her family for a wellbeing check.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s family of this tragic event,” Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “Although we hoped for a better outcome, we will assist in any way possible to help bring those responsible to justice.”
A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman did not know if the victim met the man online or how they met. He also did not know a possible motive for the murder.
Police are not saying how long Duncan had been dead before her body was found Thursday or if they found the gun used to kill her.
